Project Evaluation Volunteer, Costa Rica

February 14th - 22nd, 2015

You can help us evaluate a long-standing off-grid solar project we've supported in the beautiful Talamanca region of Costa Rica. As a volunteer you will meet with our project partners and families living off the grid that use solar electric systems in their homes. From these discussions and visits, you will be part of helping us assess how we can better support this project. This volunteer program also includes an education component as we prepare volunteers through seminars on solar PV technology, community development, project approaches, and sustainability. The registration deadline is December 31st, 2014 and space is limited, click here for more information.

Solar Training Opportunities
October 18th, 2014
Join us for an introductory solar workshop in Calgary. The workshop will cover the very basics of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology with a particular focus low-voltage systems similar to those that LUTW designs and installs in remote communities. The workshop fee is $45 ($25 for students). Materials will be provided and all proceeds go to support LUTW's programs. Space is limited with a registration deadline of September 30th. For more information or to register, refer to this link.

October 4th - 12th, 2014
Learn how to install basic low-voltage off-grid solar PV systems on your own by taking part in the off-grid solar PV training field course in the Peruvian Andes. This intensive training program includes a mix of classroom, practical hands-on exercises and site visits to technically evaluate existing installations. The program culminates with an off-grid solar electric system installation in a rural community building. The registration deadline is August 31st and space is limited, for more information refer to this link.

Project Updates

Light Up Predio Lachocc

LUTW was back in Huancavelica this past May for our 9th project in this part of the Andes.Click here to see more pictures of the training and off-grid solar installations we completed in the rural community of Predio Lachocc. These projects support communities in taking a leadership role in their development and help them respond to needs they have identified. 30 solar systems were installed in homes - bringing electric light on demand and power for radios and cell phones to families. A special thank you to the volunteers and the energy4everyone Foundation for supporting this project.

Light Up Payahuasi - Phase 1

This past April we completed the first phase of training and solar installations in the rural community of Patahuasi in the southern-central Apurimac region of Peru. The community of Patahuasi made this project possible with by supplying local materials for the installations, providing assistance to technical teams by getting their hands dirty while installing solar systems, hosting project staff and participating in community meetings related to projects. In total, 30 solar home systems were installed and .Thank you to the volunteers and the energy4everyone Foundation for supporting this project.

3 EASY WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

LUTW is often approached by generous individuals who would like to help us achieve our mission so we've come up with three easy ways we could use your help:
Help keep the lights on - we rely on monthly supporters to fund ongoing training and support for local technicians.
Save yourself some money, support sustainable power, and by using our referral code, the monthly electrical fee will be donated to LUTW.
