P2P Volunteer Helping Parent of the Month: Elizabeth Miller!

Elizabeth has been involved in Kittitas County's Parent to Parent program from it's beginning in 2002. She was on the original advisory board and went through our first Helping Parent Training. Elizabeth in involved in P2P because of her wonderful adult daughter, Rachael. Elizabeth is a wealth of information for parents and professionals alike. She knows the education system, SSI, DDA, Medicaid and much more. Recently she has volunteered on two important DDC advisory councils; one on the changes of the Family Support Services to a Waiver and the other on changes to the Waiver's Community Access Program. We are very lucky to have her involved in our Parent to Parent Program! Thank you.

Hi all,

Happy Summer. Hope you are having a wonderful

time with your family and friends. We are off for a week at Lake Chelan (my favorite place) and I plan to swim out to the floating raft and lay there looking at the sky and water....

And if I could fall asleep, wow that would even be better.

This month I want to welcome to our Parent to Parent family the new P2P Coordinator from Walla Walla, Michelle Meyer. Hope to see her and all of you at the September 22nd Coordinator training at the Red Lion at Sea Tac (be sure to sign up for a room reservation if you were invited to the Sept. 23rd leadership meeting by the Arc- need to rsvp for that also).

I saw this blog from a Mom out there who has some good advice for parents at diagnosis: "Your Sweet Baby Has Been Diagnosed With Special Needs. Now What?" By Ali Foley Shenk -

"Dear Mama,

First and foremost, congratulations on your sweet child! Not everyone will remember to say that..."
