Helping Parent Volunteer of the Month - Thank You!

Kathy Regner is our Helping Parent of the Month. She is mother to Kai, an adorable 5 year old boy with Down syndrome. She has devoted numerous hours of her personal time to connecting with other families. Kathy has become an active contributor at our County Outreach Parent Support Meetings. She continuously volunteers to network with families at the P2P events, introduces herself to the new parents, and is always there to help with clean up.

She recently was talking with a family, which we didn't recognize, at the Summer Family Barbeque and we asked her about them, assuming they were friends. Kathy said she saw the family sitting alone and decided to go welcome them. She genuinely cares about families and it shows!

Kathy is an avid learner finding new ways to support her son in school and within our community. Over the years we have seen her grow into a strong advocate; she is knowledgeable about local resources and is a champion for any new family.  We truly thank her for her amazing commitment to families, community, and us at Parent to Parent. We are honored to have Kathy as a Helping Parent!

Book Recommendation

Series "Sam's Top Secret Journal" by Sue & Sean Adelman. The Adelmans created the book series so that kids with Down Syndrome like their daughter Dev could have a literary hero and parents new to the diagnosis could find some hope.
