Grand Knight's Report

Email Grand Knight

Gladfest has come and gone for another year. Our numbers for participation were quite low this year, but we made a good showing. We mustered 5 Honor Guard members which was enough to carry the colors for our parade entry.

We handed out about 1,500 tootsie rolls during the parade which kicked off our annual drive for persons with developmental disabilities. As we began staging for the parade the skies were clear but a bit chilly. As we progressed along the parade route, there didn't appear to be as many spectators as previous years. Thanks to everyone who came and assisted.
Our tootsie roll drive continued with a presence at our parishes and 3 stores thanks to Sam Angelo. It took a lot of resources and your work was well rewarded with donations which Supreme will appreciate.
The Soccer Challenge will not be supported by us this year. Timing was tight to begin with and human resources were needed to plan and coordinate. We'll try next year.
We are continuing to seek individuals to fill some open positions. We could use your talents assisting with Membership or Youth activities. If you have time and a passion for helping others, or need additional information, please contact any of our officers.
Our next Corporate Communion will be 30th Nov at the 08:30 am mass at St. Charles parish. Please mark your calendars and joins us.

The Ladies Auxiliary hosted the Children's Halloween Party last Sunday.  We thank the ladies for all they do for us.

A few dates/events to remember:
* Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall
* Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop
The next General Meeting of Council #3414 - Nov 4th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall). I believe Ernie has requested a brief meeting for TCA directly following our meeting. Please remain and attend if your schedule permits.
If you have any questions at all or would like further information, please see me. I can also be reached via email at grandknight@kofc3414.org or gusbannick@yahoo.com .
Thank you,
Gustave E. Bannick

Membership Activities

Membership Director (email)

WANTED:
Any council member willing to mail 10 invitations per month to prospective members.  We also would like to find a member who would be willing to call these prospective members to see if they would be open to having some guys from our council visit them with more information about us.

We will be using the parish rosters of St. Gabriel and St. Charles to find our prospects.  This would be a great service to the council.  Even if you can't work at some of our other projects perhaps you can either mail invitations or make phone calls.

Contact the Grand Knight, DGK, Tim Laird, Sam Angelo or Dan Bacon if you feel you can help.

A Word from the Financial Secretary

Membership Dues and Cards

2014 is winding down. In December you will receive a bill for 2015 dues. You can pay your bill by mail with a check in response to your bill. You can pay cash or check at a council meeting after January 1. You can pay on the Council web site, kofc3414.org

After payment is received, you will receive a new membership card.

Your billing will include 2 amounts - Council dues and the optional support for the Missouri Religious Information Bureau (RIB) The RIB provides free Catholic educational material. The council is assessed support for each member.

Most brother Knights have paid their 2014 dues but a few payments are still missing. I hate to have to submit suspensions for non-payment. I have had some bills returned by the post office and some with no response. In November I will try one last time to contact unpaid brothers.

Continuity of membership is important for insurance and reductions of dues for Honorary memberships.

  • If you have any issues with your bill
  • or have paid and not received
  • or have lost your membership card,
  • or would like to discuss paying,
  • or have any other questions,

please contact me.

We are giving away 5 turkeys as door prizes on our Bingo on Friday Oct 31st.  We hope this will combat a crowd which may be small due to Halloween the same night.

We wish to thank DGK Steve Wiederholt for donating the prize money he received for winning the chipping contest at the Bishop Sullivan Golf Tournament.  A small portion of the $2,000 prize will pay for our turkeys and the rest will be going into our Charity Account.

Life Insurance As a Gift?

The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a questioning stare. "How morbid," they think. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is really a thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times.

The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of death instead of the great benefits it provides, and the security that it offers - even while you're alive.. Life insurance should be thought of as a precautionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse's quality of life in the event of your death.

One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It's a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable.

Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets.

As nontraditional as it may be, life insurance is a wise and caring gift to purchase for many people.
