Email Grand Knight

Brother Knights,
Gladfest is next week. The parade event takes place 4th Oct so mark your calendar and join us. The tootsie rolls have been delivered and we'll need your help handing them out. Please let Fred know if you can join us.

The Essay Contest for the Knights of Columbus is underway. The theme this year is "The Importance of Religious Freedom". The contest is open to all Catholic students, in public, private or parochial schools in grades 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 during the school year. The students write their essay during Sep and Oct with judging by our council in Nov. Please contact Steve Wiederholt if you would like to assist with this activity or for more information.
The Soccer Challenge has similar timing with the essay contest, running through Sep and Oct. Based on the timing and busy schedules we may not be able to pull this event off this year. Please contact Steve Wiederholt if you can assist us.

We are continuing to seek individuals to fill some open positions. If you have time and a passion for helping others, or need additional information, please contact any of our officers.
We had a wonderful showing at our last Corporate Communion which was celebrated at St. Gabriel. Thank you to all those who joined us.

This month's meeting of the Assembly was held at St. Therese. The big discussion which had a lot of energy was to consider moving the meeting to a single, standard location. The group felt greater participation would be encouraged.

Russ Wojtkiewcz is looking for assistance with the KS Speedway event. Please help if your time permits by responding to the information below.

Community Activities
Fall is just around the corner and as we all know, it starts with the Gladfest.  Please join us Saturday morning October 4th for the annual Gladfest parade.  We need walkers to throw out Tootsie Rolls  and 4th Degree Honor Guard.  As has been in recent parades, Lee Fox will pull the wagon for those members who would prefer to ride rather than walk.  Feel free to bring your kids or grand kids to join us in the walk or ride.  Let's try to make this our biggest showing yet.  Please mark your calendars Saturday morning October 4th.  We will meet at the Hall Saturday morning between 8:00 and 8:30 to get the ship out and car pool.  Rumor has it there might be doughnuts at the Hall.

The Pitfalls of Replacing Coverage

You know the old saying, "the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence," but we all know that it rarely is. The same holds true when it comes to replacing your existing Knights of Columbus life insurance with coverage offered by another company.Perceptions are deceiving. A move to the "greener" grass on the other side of the fence might seem like a good one, but it can leave you with less green in your wallet - in some cases, a lot less. That's why it pays to remember another old adage, "Read the fine print."

There are many reasons to keep your existing coverage in force, whether that coverage is with the Knights of Columbus or with another company. I'll focus on the potential pitfalls of replacing coverage here - pitfalls that an agent trying to convince you that the grass actually is greener might neglect to mention.

First, all life insurance contracts contain a contestability period, which allows the insurer to contest claims made for a period - typically two years - after the contract is issued. Chances are this is no longer an issue with your current coverage.

Second, it's unlikely that you can obtain the same amount of coverage, for the same premium, that you were able to obtain with your existing contract. The two factors that determine how much you'll need to pay for life insurance coverage are age and health. Certainly, you're older now than you were when you took out your current coverage. There's no way around that. And you have to ask yourself, has your health changed during that time? Is your blood pressure the same? Your cholesterol? Have you gained weight? All these factors can affect the amount of coverage you'll get for your premium dollar.

If someone encourages you to replace - or worse, drop - your existing coverage, please call me. I'll show you how your existing coverage is working for you and why replacement is rarely in your best interest.

Tri-County Activities (TCA) Inc
In the spring of 2014 we had hail and wind damage to our roofs and gutters.  We filed an insurance claim and the result was that both garages were given new roofs.  The main hall had a new roof on the foyer and storage extension and some repairs to shingles over the hall. All three buildings had new gutters installed. We want thank Milton Wallace and Mark Tomes for searching out the best contractor and overseeing the completion of the work and getting the claim paid by the insurance carrier.

A word from the Ladies

October is going to be a busy month for the Ladies' Aux. First, on our agenda is October 4th. The ladies' are going to Liberty for the fall home tour.  The cost is $15.00 per person.  If you would like to attend, we are meeting at the hall at 11:00 a.m.  We will stop in Liberty for lunch before we begin the tour.

October 12th is our annual Steak and Chicken dinner.  Pat Smith and Marie Robinson have agreed to head this event for us.  The price of the dinner has been changed to $11.00 because of the rise of meat prices. This is our major fund raiser for the Lady's.

Our meeting night is October 20th at 7:00 p.m. Then on October 26th is our annual Children's Halloween party.  The party starts at 2:00 p.m.  There will be crafts to make, games to play, treats to eat and of course our haunted village to trick or treat.  We will be needing a driver for the Knight's wagon, so we can offer hay rides again this year.  We could also use help setting up the hall and cleaning up after the party.  If you can volunteer, please call Sheila at 734-2382.

These are fun activities and we hope you can attend.

Happy Fall,

Sheila Van Keirsbilck
