Remote Controller

With so many different types of electronic equipment at the hall that means there are too many remote controllers.

Several years ago we implemented a system to have one Android App that can send signals to all of the devices.  The App runs on a touch screen tablet.  Well that tablet has died.  Soon you will see the next generation and we hope you will like the results.

We will have two tablets installed.  One will be attached to the wall by the projector screen and the other will be on the bar.

Grand Knight's Report

Email Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

Officers have been elected for the new fraternal year. A heart full thank you for all the devotion and work our officers provided last year. May we have a productive year ahead.

Our Community Director, Fred O'Halloran has begun the process to register us for Gladfest 2014, "Walk the Red Carpet Live at Gladfest 35". The parade event will take place 4th Oct so mark you calendars. We will need individuals to pull the parade entry along with Honor Guard members, members for the wagon and walkers to assist with the tootsie roll distribution. Please let Fred know if you can join us.

Our annual tootsie roll drive is right around the corner. Individuals are working on locations where we may give out our product. If you can provide support for a block of time, please step forward and sign up on the sheets when they become available.

The Essay Contest for the Knights of Columbus will begin shortly after the students return for the academic school year. There is plenty of work to be done in this area which currently has an open position.

If you find yourself with time on your hands and are looking for something to help fill it, stop by the shop on Tuesday morning between 8:00 am and noon and see what they do. Chat with master toy maker Lee Fox. There is still much work to be done before the Christmas distribution.

Our facilities continue on to progress our security system. The photo below shows the keypad in the main hall entry. Dan Bacon has provided a nice reminder sheet for arming and disarming the system. If you have any questions, please contact Dan Bacon.

We are continuing to seek individuals to fill some open positions. If you have time and a passion for helping others, or need additional information, please contact any of our officers.

Our 4th Degree Assembly will be holding their summer picnic at our Hall on 24th Aug. The event is open to all Knights of our council. Stop by with your significant other and say HI. It's a great way to meet your fellow knights and see what our patriotic degree is all about.

This month's meeting of the Assembly will be the 31st Jul at Tri-County, 3414. The meeting begins at 07:30 pm with the prayer of the Rosary at 7:15 pm.

A few dates/events to remember:

  • Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall
  • Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop
  • Ladies Auxiliary - Monday 18th Aug at 7:00 PM
  • 4th Degree Picnic - Sunday 24th Aug 1:00 PM
  • Lunch Bunch - Wednesday 27th Aug 1:00 PM

General Meeting of Council #3414 - Aug 5th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall). This will be the installation of our officers for the new fraternal year with a brief open meeting to follow. Our District Deputy, Roland will perform the ceremonies.

I enjoyed representing you over the past year and thank you for your support for a second term as your Grand Knight. If you have any questions at all or would like further information, please see me. I can also be reached via email at grandknight@kofc3414.org or gusbannick@yahoo.com .

Community Activities

Summer is half way over, which means the fall isn't too far away and as everyone knows, that means the Gladfest Parade.  Mark your calendars for Saturday October 4th for the 2014 Gladfest Parade. Each year we hope to increase the size of our entry in order to demonstrate to the Northland; our commitment to our Church, Council, Community and to show off our Knights of Columbus Spirit. Saturday October 4th in the morning (more specifics will be available as we get closer to parade day), we can use you.  We are in need of walkers, riders as well as Honor Guard.  As we have in the past several parades, we will have wagon with us if you would prefer to ride along.  Hone up your throwing skills as you toss the Tootsie Rolls into the crowd. Invite your family members to walk with us.  Please mark the date on your calendar.

ALTAR SERVERS' DAY

We are excited to be hosting an Altar Servers Day at our council grounds on Sunday September 7th 2014.  We are inviting all the boys and girls who serve at the altar of St. Gabriel and St. Charles to attend.

We plan to have outdoor games, and some indoor activities too.  We will be cooking burgers with all the fixins.

We estimate that there are 100 servers who will be invited and we hope 50 will show up.  Therefore we need COUNCIL MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER to help.

We are hoping to get 16 volunteers.  That would be 8 couples.  If you are not married than by all means volunteer anyway.

Please let Sam Angelo or Dan Bacon know if you can help.

The time will be from 1PM to 4 PM.  But we need the volunteers to arrive by 12:30 PM and stay until everything is cleaned up.

Think You Are Too Old for Coverage? Maybe Not

You are never too young or too old to consider purchasing life insurance. If you have a financial need for coverage, or will in the future, a permanent life insurance policy can be just the thing you need.

When you are young and presumably healthy, coverage will be very inexpensive when compared to purchasing the same policies when you are older.

If you've put off purchasing coverage, or you realize that you may need additional insurance, the Order may still be able to help you, even if other companies cannot. In fact, in 2012, the issue age of our permanent life insurance products was extended to age 80. Naturally, your health, and whether or not you smoke, will be taken into consideration, so underwriting standards for risk and age apply. But, the extension is a great blessing for me - and it could be for you too. Now I can help members that I couldn't help before. Are you or one of your brother knights one of those members?

Whether you're 18 or 80, the Knights of Columbus has products that will work for you and your family. I look forward to discussing coverage with you.

New Board Members Elected

At the corporation general meeting in July the following gentlemen were elected to the board of directors:
Alan King, Paul Bates, Ben Volker, Milton Wallace.

We have filed a claim for hail and wind damage on all three roofs.  You can expect to see new roofs and guttering on the garages and partial repairs on the main hall.  We are still negotiating regarding which firm will be doing the job.
