Grand Knight's Report

Email Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

Since our last communication, we participated in Supreme's "Coats for Kids" program distributing two dozen winter coats. With the recent cold temperatures, I'm sure they were well used. We also closed out the Essay Contest. More on that later from our Program Director.

The "Snake Saturday Parade" is just over the horizon. Put your thinking caps on and give us your ideas for how to utilize this year's theme in our parade entry.

As you come and go from the Hall, you may have may have noticed the window on the second story finally has security bars. In the second photo of the entry of the Hall, you will see a security keypad, alarm horn and motion detector. The system isn't active yet and will take a few days to complete. This will get us one step closer in providing improved security for our property.

Membership dues for 2014 have been mailed. Please pay promptly to remain in good standing.

Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson issued a communication concerning the First Degree Exemplification. To facilitate the timely admission of new members, Carl announced that effective immediately, councils are authorized to host First Degree exemplifications using the new Supreme Council-produced video presentation of our initiation ceremonial. Live degrees remain the preferred method by which candidates are to be admitted and advanced through the degrees. The video presentation of the First Degree is meant to supplement these efforts.

A few dates/events to remember:

* Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall

* Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop

* Bingo - Fridays

* Habitat for Humanity - Saturday contact John Hiatt hihohn3@juno.com

* General Meeting of Council #3414 - Feb 4th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall). The prayer of the rosary will begin at 6:45 pm.

If you have any questions at all or would like further information, please see me. I can also be reached via email at gusbannick@yahoo.com.

Thank you,

Hard to believe but March is almost here and that means Snake Saturday Parade.  The parade is scheduled for Saturday March 15th in the morning.  We will need Honor Guard, walkers (tootsie Roll throwers), and most importantly veterans.  As with the past two parades, we will honor our veterans in the wagon.  Knights who can't walk that far are welcome to join us in the wagon as well.  Children and grandchildren are welcome to join us in the parade.  In recent years our best showing was about 25 Knights, we would really like to blow that number away.  Please plan on participating with us this year.  This year's theme is "Mile and Miles of Irish Smiles".  If you have any suggestions as to how to incorporate the theme into our display, please contact Fred O'Halloran or our Grand Knight Gus Bannick.

GOSPEL
Mark 1:29-39

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you." He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come." So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.

The Bingo Bucks rewards cards will be in full operation beginning this month.  During January we signed up many players and close to 130 people have been enrolled and that does not include husband / wives who share a card.

We will also be adding nearly 100 council members to the Bingo Bucks list.  If you are wanting to use your card we will have one waiting for you at the bingo hall.  Just tell the booth worker that you are a council member (or spouse) and they will get your card for you.  Once you have a card bring it back whenever you want to play bingo again.

We also hope you have seen some of our publicity efforts in the parish bulletins.  We plan on make ourselves visible in this manner quite a few times throughout the year.

More news later.

Have You Insured Your Most Valuable Asset?

Is your income protected if you become sick or injured and cannot work? Your ability to work and earn an income is your most valuable asset. Yet a disability could prevent you from earning that income. Just one year of a disability could eliminate your savings.

Income Armor, an individual disability income insurance product from the Knights of Columbus, should be a key part of your overall financial plan and family's protection.

If you are ill or injured, Income Armor provides tax-free monthly benefits to help you meet living expenses and maintain you and your family's standard of living. Your monthly benefits help you pay your mortgage and other monthly bills, while your savings and retirement assets remain intact.

As I write this I am going into week two of being laid up due to a bad back.  I expect to that I will return to work by the end of this week but there are no assurances of that.  I am comforted by the fact that I have a disability income plan in case things don't turn out so rosy.

In short, if you have a job and don't have a way to protect that paycheck, you should seriously consider Income Armor today. I look forward to meeting with you

IMPORTANT ALARM SYSTEM NEWS

We are installing an alarm system with 24 hour monitoring and police dispatch for the three buildings on our property.

Everyone who unlocks and enters the hall or either of the two garages must enter a 4 digit numerical PIN in the keypads or an alarm will sound and the police called.

If you possess a key to enter the hall or any of the garages you must register a PIN for the new alarm system. You can choose any four digit PIN you like as long as it is not already taken by someone else.  Some obvious pins like "3414" or "4143" are not secure and will not be allowed.

Please email Fred O'Halloran by clicking on the link at the top of this article.  Tell him your name and your chosen PIN.  Once Fred has registered your pin he will email you back telling you that you have been approved.

We expect the installation to be completed by mid February so do not delay.  There will be alarm company signs visible on the property once the system installed.  If the alarm company signs are visible and you don't have a PIN yet please do not attempt to enter any building even if you have a key.  You would set off the alarm and could not shut it off.

Thanks

A word from the Ladies

With the bad weather and the dark nights,  we have moved our Ladies meetings to the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.  We have also decided to bring in a brown bag lunch and will play cards after our meetings.  We hope more ladies can  participate at this time.  We would love to include any new members, just come and enjoy the afternoon with us.

We want to tell everyone to mark their calendars for our  Cabbage and Corn Beef dinner, March 9th.  We will have more information next month in the newsletter  and will put up a flyer at the Hall.

We still have cookbooks from the State Aux. to sell for $15.00 each.  They are very nice cookbooks and several of our Ladies have their recipes in the book.  Let me know if anyone would like to purchase one.

Until next time,

Sheila Van Keirsbilck

Ladies Aux. President
