The council has transitioned to the new format and all things seem to be running smoothly.

One major improvement is that you as a member do not have to have a password to view members only information.  All you need is your membership number and your birthdate.  Simple huh?

Check it out.

Grand Knight's Report

Email Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

A big thank you goes out to all those who supported the Ladies Auxiliary steak & chicken dinner. The food and company were a nice diversion from the weekly routine.

Another thank you goes to Len Kuklenski and everyone who helped with our tootsie roll drive at St. Gabriels and St. Charles parishes. The collected funds will be reported at our November general meeting.

Our annual "Essay Contest" is in full swing at parishes and St. Pius X high school. This year's theme is "The Importance of Religious Freedom". Judging should take place in December and we solicit all the assistance from our membership that can provide the time to read and score the entries.

A few dates/events to remember:

* Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall

* Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop

* Bingo - Fridays

* Habitat for Humanity - Saturday contact John Hiatt hihohn3@juno.com

* Children's Halloween Party - Oct 27th Diebold Hall 3414 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Come trick or treat at the scary Halloween village.

* First Degree Nov 5th at 7:00 pm.

* General Meeting of Council #3414 - Nov 5th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall). The prayer of the rosary will begin at 6:45 pm.

* Memorial Mass Nov 6th at St. Charles Church 7:00 pm.

Service Programs Update for Oct 2013;

* Community - Shaping the world around us

Another Gladfest has come and gone. This year's entry was combined with the cub scouts and St. Charles school. There didn't seem as many spectators who turned out for the parade as in the past. Maybe it was just too cold. The photo below shows our entry which sure looked grand.

A number of Sir Knights from 3414 turned out for the prayer service at Divine Mercy Park. We couldn't have asked for better weather

* Youth - Building leaders for the future

We looking for individuals who can help score/judge the entries. Please consider contacting Jerry Nolte programs@kofc3414.org

* Culture of Life Activities

There will be a ministry fair on behalf of the Respect Life Team on Oct 6th at St. Charles following all masses. Although the focus is to educate the parish community on "Respect Life", it would be a golden opportunity to have our Knights of Columbus and RIB display boards there with fellow knights available to field questions.

If you have any questions at all or would like further information, please see me. I can also be reached via email at gusbannick@yahoo.com.

Thank you,

Here is a brief introduction to a Knights of Columbus program for youth that Council 3414 sponsors at the local level.

The Missouri State Essay Contest has been aligned with the Supreme Council's Essay Contest. The contest is open to all Catholic students in the state of Missouri, public, private, or home schooled, grades 5-12.

All entries in each grade must be submitted to the local Council for the first round of judging, and only one winner in each grade is to be forwarded by the council for judging on the state level.

There will be a first place winner in each of the eight grades.  Plaques will be awarded to the winner in each grade.

Council 3414 also provides awards for our winners, along with certificates. Winners from grades 8-12 will be forwarded to Supreme for the International Competition.

If you know someone who would like to participate in these events, we welcome them. You can be sure it's always a fun time. If you want to help coordinate any of our youth activities, I am certain that you'll enjoy sharing the experience with your brother Knights.

Parkville Women's Clinic saves lives, one baby at a time

...So they prayed harder. And thought bigger.

"We began praying for God to show us where he wanted this ministry to go," Rice said.

The blessings began flowing, not the least of which was the commitment from parishioners from St. Therese Parish in Parkville, its Knights of Columbus chapter and its pastor, Father Joe Cisetti.

"We had members on our board who were from St. Therese who made the contacts with Northpoint Development. They offered us a deal we couldn't refuse," Rice said.

It was for a suite of offices with examination rooms, counseling rooms, a conference room and storage space, all tucked away in an easily accessible corner of the easily accessible development, but still with the privacy that clients would need.

"We pay rent," Rice said. "But Northpoint gave us an amazing deal."

"Then another parishioner from St. Therese, Ken Karr, stepped up and said, 'I'll be your project representative,'" Rice said. Karr oversaw the entire move into the new southern Platte County space.

Then came the Missouri Knights of Columbus, who donated the key piece of equipment - a $24,000 ultrasound with a full screen. That was vital, Rice said.

"Ninety-three percent of women who are shown an ultrasound will choose life," she said.

"The ultrasound is a very powerful tool. You put that with great client advocacy, and they can't get that anywhere else."

Bingo Report
Bingo Chair Email
The ad-hoc committee to market our bingo and our council has come up with some great ideas.  Fred O'Halloran reports that at the November council meeting a proposal will be made which should lay the groundwork for future growth in the number of bingo players.

Many ideas have surfaced and soon you will begin to see concrete actions taken to implement them.  To paraphrase the bible we will no longer be hiding our light under a bushel basket but will let it shine.  Ongoing articles in our two parish bulletins are planned.  Placing our bingo nights on the parish calendars is in the offing.  We will employ social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Yelp and others as they arise.  T-Shirt give-aways and other non-traditional advertising ideas are also being considered

Even though much thought has been given to increasing bingo attendance many of the ideas will help grow the council membership and increase our hall rentals too.  We will be needing assistance  from brother knights to work on some of these projects.  Please say yes when asked to help.

Message from Field Agent
The need for membership referrals

As a professional insurance agent, one of the things I appreciate most is when one of my brother Knight clients or his wife refers another member to me. This is a great endorsement of the service I provided. It tells me that they were so pleased with what I helped them accomplish that they want me to help others achieve the safe level of financial safety and security. When I meet with you, please pass along the names of those who might be able to benefit from the analysis that I provide.

On a similar topic, there is no stronger membership recruiting tool than the referral. How many of us know an eligible Catholic male who is not a member of the Knights of Columbus? Do you have Catholic family or friends, local or not, who have yet to join? Most likely, they've never been asked and don't know enough about the Order to seek out membership on their own.

If you have names of potential members, please pass them along to me or your Grand Knight. Let us know if we can use your name when we contact the gentlemen in question. It's always more effective to tell a candidate for membership that he was recommended by a current member, especially someone he knows. If the candidate is outside the area I serve or beyond the district of the local councils, I can contact the Supreme Council in New Haven, CT, to follow up on this referral.

New members are the lifeblood of the Order. All the good deeds done by the Order are driven by the members. Over the past decade, Knights have given more than $1.367 billion to charity and provided in excess of 639 million hours of service. And our membership has merely scratched the surface in North America. Imagine the potential.

EAGLE SCOUT ASPIRANT NEEDED

We are looking for an Eagle Scout candidate in need of a service project.  The board has approved adding a porch and wheel chair ramp to the second floor entrance.  Tim Laird has engineered a drawing and we have some materials donated.  If an Eagle Scout wants to take it on now is the time to get all of the paper work completed so actual work can start in the spring.  If we don't find a scout then we must get some of our abled-bodied knights to do it.  Either way we want to get this done in the spring 2014.
