Our website will be changing very soon. We will transition to a web service provided by UKnight Interactive.
This newsletter will be published via our new website so you can expect something to look the same and others to change.
The new site will allow all members to login without creating a password simply by knowing your membership number and your birthdate. It will also allow certain officers and chairmen the ability to modify many parts of the website including upload photos and add activities among other items.
Look for more information in this space and in other emails as we get closer to implementation.

Brother Knights,
October 5th is quickly approaching and with it the annual initiation of our tootsie roll drive at the Gladfest parade. This event provides our visibility within our community. Our parade entry this year will be combined with St. Charles school. Please consider joining us for handing out tootsie rolls, riding the veterans wagon, participating as an honor guard member, or staffing our ID-Kids booth. Our community director, Fred O Halloran will provide the time and place for assembling as the event nears.
Our KC P&L utility usage for the past month shows a significant increase. Almost double coming in at $ 730. The chart is shown below. There are quite a few members with keys to our facilities and I am certainly not wanting to interfere with anyone's coming or going. I would ask each of us to exercise care to ensure when we leave, the lights are turned off and the air conditioning or heating returned to where we found it.
A few dates/events to remember: * Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall * Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop * Bingo - Fridays * Habitat for Humanity - Saturday contact John Hiatt hihohn3@juno.com * Steak & Chicken Dinner sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary - Oct 13th starting at 4:00 pm Diebold Hall 3414. * Children's Halloween Party - Oct 27th Diebold Hall 3414 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Come trick or treat at the scary Halloween village. * General Meeting of Council #3414 - Oct 1st (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall). The prayer of the rosary will begin at 6:45 pm. Service Programs Update for Sep 2013; * Community - Shaping the world around us Work continues in preparation for this year's Gladfest parade. Fellow knight, John is pictured below adding some finishing touches to our veteran wagon. There is still more to do. * Youth - Building leaders for the future The Essay Contest is underway and looking for individuals who can help score/judge the entries. Please consider contacting Jerry Nolte <noltoons@kcnet.com>; * Culture of Life Activities There will be a ministry fair on behalf of the Respect Life Team on Oct 6th at St. Charles following all masses. Although the focus is to educate the parish community on "Respect Life", it would be a golden opportunity to have our Knights of Columbus and RIB display boards there with fellow knights available to field questions. If you have any questions at all or would like further information, please see me. I can also be reached via email at gusbannick@yahoo.com. Thank you, Gustave E Bannick

Due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be staffing a Photo-ID booth this year.
We also are behind schedule to get stores committed for our Tootsie Rolls Drive. We may need to concentrate on our parishes only this year. Come to the council meeting on Tuesday for more of a discussion.

Community Activities
Please mark your calendars for Saturday October 5th. As with past years, we hope to show the Northland our commitment to our to our Church, Council, Community and to demonstrate the Knights of Columbus Spirit with a show of force in numbers in the parade. We need walkers to pass out the Tootsie Rolls or throw them as some have done in the past. We need Honor Guard members to march and carry the colors and most of all we plan to honor our veterans in the parade., so we need veterans to ride in the wagon. Rumor has it the wagon is being painted with patriotic colors to enhance our salute to our the vets and the vets of the Northland. Again, Saturday October 5th in the morning (more specifics will be available as we get closer to parade day), We can use you, walk or ride, please join us. Please mark the date on your calendar and respond to Fred O'Halloran ftohal@gmail.com or 816-415-0947.

Here is a brief introduction to a Knights of Columbus program for youth that Council 3414 sponsors at the local level.
The Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest is an excellent way to get the young people in the Northland involved in addressing issues that directly affect them. Council 3414 always has a fun time conducting this event.
It's fun for us because of the opportunity to witness the creativity and optimism of the young people at St. Charles Borromeo Parish and St. Gabriel Parish.
It's easy to conduct this event because we can tap into existing programs like the Art or Current Affairs Department to do a lot of preliminary work. It can also provide excellent local, and potentially international, publicity for Council 3414.
If you know someone who would like to participate in these events, we welcome them. You can be sure it's always a fun time. If you want to help coordinate any of our youth activities, I am certain that you'll enjoy sharing the experience with your brother Knights.

 Bingo Report
Bingo Chair EmailSeveral members of the council have been discussing and meeting about ways to improve attendance at our Friday Night Bingo.
You can expect very soon for some concrete proposals to be presented to the council for approval. Hopefully we can grow our crowds and therefore be able to help more charitable organizations. |
Message from Field Agent
One of our founding goals: to protect widows
As a member of this council, you know how important spouses can be to the charitable works of the Order. If you're married, your wife is probably involved in a few of the many events that happen each fraternal year. This support adds great value and impact to what a council can achieve.
When the Order was founded in 1882, Father Michael J. McGivney and the other brave men were setting out to protect Catholic families, but especially wives and children. We know today this is done through our insurance products which are designed with that goal in mind. One specific policy rider that you may not know about is called Spousal Waiver of Premium. This rider is unique to the Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping our widows.
This rider is available on most permanent and Discoverer plans purchased at standard rates by a member and his wife on the same day. When both spouses apply, the rider provides for waiver of premiums on the spouse's contract in the event of the insured's death. Best of all, for members and spouses ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for no charge. The rider stays in effect until the spouse attains age 65 or certain other triggering events occur.
Our products are designed with your needs and budget in mind. With a solid portfolio of life insurance, long-term care, disability income and retirement products, the Knights of Columbus can help you meet all of your financial goals. To learn more about these solutions, contact me today.
