After many years of building and maintaining our unique web site we are considering joining with many other councils across the country.  The concept of council websites being linked to each other and thus interacting on an international level is intriguing to say the least.

More importantly the style and format promises to be more vibrant and engaging for younger audiences.

Youth Activities

Here is a brief introduction to a couple of Knights of Columbus programs for youth that Council 3414 sponsors at the local level.

SOCCER CHALLENGE AND BASKETBALL FREE THROW CONTEST
All work and no play makes our young boys and girls dull people. Competition for both of these events is open to all boys and girls ages 10 to 14. The Soccer and Basketball events give our youth a chance to meet and compete with other kids from all over the state.

If you know someone who would like to participate in these events, we welcome them. You can be sure it's always a fun time. If you want to help coordinate any of our youth activities, I am certain that you'll enjoy sharing the experience with your brother Knights.

Life insurance as a gift?

The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a questioning stare. How morbid, they may think quietly or aloud. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is a really thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times.

The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of life insurance only in cases where someone dies. Life insurance should, in fact, be thought of as a precautionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse's quality of life in the event of your death.

One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It's a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable.

Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets.

As nontraditional as it may be, life insurance is a wise and caring gift to purchase for many people.

A word from the Ladies

It is hard to believe that school has started and summer will be over soon. We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the cool weather.

We will be hosting our annual Steak and Chicken dinner on October 13th. The times are 5:00p.m. for Happy Hour and 6:00p.m. for Dinner.

Menu includes meat of your choice, a baked potato, green beans, tossed salad, rolls, and an apple dessert. The price is $10.00 per person and we are requesting rsvp's, so we have a count for the meat.  Pat Smith (453-5272) is in charge of this dinner, so please call her if you have any questions and to rsvp.   Flyers will be made and put up at the hall.

The Ladies' Area One Tea is October 20th at Arch Bishop O'Hare Council Kansas City Hall #566.  Ladies of the Auxiliary and the Grand Knight are invited to attend.  The luncheon begins at 1:00p.m. and the meeting is over at 3:00p.m.  Let Kathy Altenhofen (255-3460) know if you plan to attend.

The Children's Halloween Party is planned for October 27th at 2:00p.m.  Come dressed in costume and Trick or Treat the haunted village.  There will be crafts to make and snacks to eat.  We hope to see you then.

We are always looking for more ladies to join our Auxiliary.  We meet on the third Monday of each month at 7:00p.m.  Children are always welcome, so don't worry about a babysitter.  Our dues are cheap at $10.00 a year.  Our main purpose is to support the Knights' and our charities. Our fund raisers are the few dinners we have during the year.  Come and have a girls' night with us.  We always have delicious snacks after the meetings.
