Grand Knight's Report

Email Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

As we begin our new fraternal year with the newly elected officers taking office, I would like to thank our outgoing officers for their hard work and dedication. For our new officers, the initial challenge will be to establish the timing and general organization for the programs we support throughout the year. The Service Programs area of Youth Activities features events such as the annual Essay Contest, the Soccer Challenge, Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest, and the Free Throw Program. Events such as these require resources of time and talent from our membership to be successful. Please contact our Programs Director Jerry if you are interested.

The Knights visibility within our community is easily recognized through our participation in the local parades. We need to spend some time and spruce up our parade wagon by removing the flaking paint, repair some broken parts and repaint.

A few dates/events to remember:

* Pitch Game - Thursdays at 1:00 pm at the Hall

* Toy Makers - Tuesdays at 8:00 am at the Hall's Hobby Shop

* General Meeting of Council #3414 - Aug 6th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall)

* Officers of Council #3414 - Aug 20th (Tue) 7:00PM (at the Hall)

Service Programs Update for Jun 2013;

* Church - Addressing the needs of the Church

You may have read in the St. Charles bulletin that a new event "St. Charles Chargers' Challenge 5K run and 1 Mile walk has been initiated. The event will be September 7th at 07:30 am at St. Charles School. Proceeds from this race will benefit the St. Charles School Renovation Project, which includes updating windows and electrical wiring in order to install an Air Conditioning as well as energy-efficient heating, in the original wing of St. Charles School.Chip timing for the 5k. All participants will receive a free pancake breakfast after the race. Family, friends and spectators may purchase a ticket for the breakfast for $7. All participants registered by August 27 will receive a free T-shirt commemorating this inaugural event. At least 45 or more volunteers are needed to support the event. Volunteer start time is 6:00am. Packet pick-up, serving food, passing out water, directing spots on the route, and chip removal are just a few places where help is needed. Please contact Suzanne Licata at 454-0699 or slicata2@swbell.net

* Community - Shaping the world around us
Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness one family at a time. In the last three years, Knights of Columbus members and their families have contributed nearly 4 million hours to building projects. Consider helping us support Habitat of Humanity by contacting John Hiatt hihohn3@juno.com

* Council - Entertaining, enjoyable, beneficial

Special Olympics is a global movement that provides adults and children with intellectual disabilities opportunities to participate in athletic competition.  The Knights of Columbus has been a strong supporter of the Special Olympics since its inception more than 40 years ago, contributing hundreds of millions of dollars and volunteer hours.  Special Olympics illustrates in a dramatic and public way the intrinsic worth and dignity of every human being.  The games build strength and character among the athletes, and inspire all those who participate. Please contact Deputy Grand Knight and Program Director Jerry Nolte for more information on how you can help. Jerry Nolte<noltoons@kcnet.com>

* Family - Strengthening family life

The Knights of Columbus celebrates Family Week in August to help families be together and have fun together. To promote and highlight both family interaction and family focus we could celebrate with a family mass, picnic or prayer service.

* Youth - Building leaders for the future

As we begin our new fraternal year, we are in need of members who can assist by contacting our schools, St. Gabriels, St. Charles, and St. Pius X with program and timing information. Please contact Deputy Grand Knight and Program Director Jerry Nolte for more information. Jerry Nolte<noltoons@kcnet.com>

* Culture of Life Activities -

The Respect Life Committee at St. Charles is hosting a "Summer Movie Night" with free family flic, popcorn and lemonade on August 12th (Mon) at 06:30 pm in Borromeo Center. All are welcome.

This past Thursday the newly elected officers for the assembly were installed at 3414's Hall. The event had a nice turn out. 3414 was well represented. A big thank you for all those who were able to help make this event a success.

Youth Activities

This year promises to be an exciting time for the Council 3414 Youth Activities Team. During the coming weeks, our worthy council service program director and I will be working to put together a strong group of youth activities chairmen. Council 3414 has shown great enthusiasm in producing the Knights of Columbus basketball, soccer, essay, and poster contests. These are rewarding positions that enable a council member to give back to the most deserving people in the community- the youth. I hope you will be able to join us this year on the Council 3414 Youth Activities Team.

Message from Field Agent
Have you insured your most valuable asset?

Is your income protected if you become sick or injured and cannot work? Your ability to work and earn an income is your most valuable asset. Yet a disability could prevent you from earning that income. Just one year of a disability could eliminate your savings.

I would like to show you that Income Armor, an individual disability income insurance product from the Knights of Columbus, should be a key part of your overall financial plan and family's protection.

If you are ill or injured, Income Armor provides monthly benefits to help you meet living expenses and maintain your standard of living. Your monthly benefits help you pay your mortgage and other monthly bills, while your savings and retirement assets remain intact.

In short, if you have a job and don't have a way to protect that paycheck, you should seriously consider Income Armor today. I look forward to meeting with you.
