Verify Your Information for the 2014 ASFMRA Membership Directory
Deadline is January 15, 2014

It's that time of year again! Production is underway for the 2014 ASFMRA Membership Directory which is one of the Society's most valued benefits of membership. As we all know, the directory's value is only as good as the accuracy of the information in it.

Verify and/or Update Your Information
Is your information correct and up to date? Here's how to make sure.

The ASFMRA Executive Council Needs Your Input

ASFMRA has so much going for it. We are experiencing a growth in younger members, an increase in interest in the designations, and strong support for our annual meeting and summer education week programs.

What we need now is more input from you to further help us refine what we offer. Please complete the annual membership survey to give your input for the future of ASFMRA!  The ASFMRA Executive Council will be meeting in February to review the direction of the organization. In order to make the best decisions possible for ASFMRA, we need your feedback and input.
Read more about the survey and incentives to complete the survey.

The survey can be found at

Annual Meeting Survey Results

The 2013 Annual Meeting was no doubt one of our best in many years. Attendance was over 500 and sponsorship was terrific. And, for the second year ZimmCom is helping to get us media play on the web. (Check out the videos here.) The Council thanks members and chapters for all you did to make this year's meeting a success. The meeting was a chart topper with 94% of attendees rating the meeting excellent or above average. On price 84% rated the meeting acceptable, a good value or best price with only 2.6% saying it was too expensive. Perhaps the best answer of all was that 94% said they would recommend the meeting to others.

AVE Sponsor Update

Paul Bierschwale, ARA, ASFMRA Past President and Past President of the Appraisal Foundation, and now Chairman of the Board of Regents for the Alliances for Valuation Education (AVE), continues to do a great job of keeping the ASFMRA up to date on the activities of the AVE. We recently learned from Paul that Mark Grace, a former ASFMRA employee, is the AVE Education Committee Chair, heading up the efforts for the first educational offering from AVE. The Education Committee has two subcommittees: the Development Subcommittee and the Policies Subcommittee.  Read more.

NSPS to Join IPMS

By Brian Stockman, EVP

The National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) just became a part of the International Property Measurement Standards group (IPMS). This international body continues to grow. The NSPS provides a platform for their members, so they can share their thoughts and opinions about common interests through business meetings /committees, regional groups, and student chapters. It also provides a forum for input from other groups such as the National Association of County Surveyors, members of state boards of registration, and the Forum for State Surveying Society Executives.Read more about the NSPS & IPMS.

Wanted: Students for Career Day at Summer Education Week

It's time to start thinking about who you can send to ASFMRA's Career Day at Summer Education Week in Des Moines on July 13-14.

As you know, Career Day has been very successful and it wouldn't have been so successful without your help. Chapters have been instrumental in identifying students and in many cases they have helped the students with their travel expenses. Get more information about sponsoring a student at Summer Ed Week.

Chapter Support for Leadership Institute

As you are finalizing your agendas for your upcoming chapter meeting, we hope that you would consider sponsoring a member or two for the upcoming 2014 Leadership Institute, scheduled for September 8-12 in Washington, DC.

Leadership Institute is an opportunity for members to learn and interact with those who influence policy and make laws in our nation's capitol. Many chapters view sponsoring members for Leadership Institute as an investment in the leadership of their chapter. Tuition is just $795 and includes a shared sleeping room, materials, several meals and an ASFMRA logo shirt.

Get more information on Leadership Institute.  Download a flyer for Leadership Institute.
