*MCCP Foundation celebrates milestone of $1 million worth of medical and dental care provided to uninsured children in Fairfax County at their annual gala.
  
The Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP) Foundation is proud to announce that it has provided over $1 million of medical and dental care to Fairfax County's children in low income, uninsured families. MCCP Foundation will be marking this milestone at their annual Dress Up with Grow-Ups Gala on April 6, 2013. The MC will be Charles Mann, former Redskin, three-time Super Bowl champion, businessman and philanthropist.  
 
The gala will be held at The Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel located on George Mason University's campus. Welcoming remarks will be presented by Dr. Ángel Cabrera, President of GMU.

*MCLEAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES $18,000 IN NEW GRANT AWARDS*

 

At its late February meeting The Mclean Community Foundation awarded grants to six organizations that serve the greater McLean community.  

 

A substantial portion of the support took the form of challenge grants designed to leverage the Foundation's resources and to encourage other donors to participate in the projects.

 

The grantees are:  

  • Falls Church-Mclean Children's Center, $3, 500 (challenge);  
  • Traveling Players Ensemble, $5000 (challenge);  
  • Alternative House, $1,800,  
  • Specially Adapted Resource Clubs -"SPARC", $3,760;  
  • McLean Orchestra, $2,500; and  
  • Share, Incorporated, $1,695.

The Foundation is seeking proposals that build the infrastructures and capacity of community organizations. Information on the application process is available on the MCF website.

Eight Dranesville Small District 1A Residents Qualify to Run for a Seat on McLean Community Center's 2013-2014 Governing Board  
Three adult, two teen positions available

Eight McLean tax district residents have qualified to run for seats on the McLean Community Center's 2013-2014 Governing Board. The board sets policy and provides general oversight for facilities and programs of the Center, including the Robert Ames Alden Theatre and the Old Firehouse Teen Center. The Center is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Residents of Dranesville Small District 1A are eligible to vote during the election.  Voting for Governing Board members will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the McLean Day festival at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Rd. Residents also may vote by absentee ballot from Monday, April 8, through Wednesday, May 15.
 
Three adult positions and two youth positions are open this year. The adult candidates who receive the three-highest vote counts will serve three-year (3) terms. Youth candidates, one from the McLean High School boundary area and one from the Langley High School boundary area, serve one-year (1) terms. Youth candidates do not have to attend these schools to serve on the board.

High School Seniors: Don't Forget the College Access Fairfax Scholarships
If you're a high school senior, don't forget to check out the scholarships administered by College Access Fairfax for students, with varying eligiblity requirements for each scholarship.  The deadine is April 12, and you can apply online!
