Tip of the Week for August 20th, 2012

Dust off the Alarm Clock
Change in routine can be hard for any child. Summer is a time when the routine may be more laid back, kids might get to stay up late and sleep a little later. Now that school is approaching, it is time to get the kids back into a routine so that the day starts out as smoothly as possible. A good morning can set the tone for the day ahead. To help kids ease back into the school routine, for a week or two prior to the first day of school, wake up your child at his new "school" time. Encourage him to go through the morning routine- getting dressed, eating breakfast, etc., so that his body can adjust.

Book of the Week: My Strange and Terrible Malady/ by Catherine Bristow. Autism Asperger Pub.Co., 2008. "Ronita Baker is not happy. How can she be happy when she has just been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome--some boy's ailment that she's never heard [of] any girl ever having?"--Cover verso. This is a great young adult novel, with an engaging main character. This book is in the SESA Library; you may search the library catalog via the SESA website or contact Anne directly by email at [email protected], or by phone at 907-334-1301.
