Tip of the Week for May 7th, 2012
This Week's Tip: Sharing The News - Part 2 In the book, "The Autism Checklist," Paula Kluth gives strategies for parents to use when sharing the news of an autism diagnosis with friends and families. She says, "If it seems appropriate, involve your child in sharing the news. If you have shared the diagnosis with your youngster and he is interested in learning more and getting involved in self-advocacy, you might encourage him to play a part in educating others. This approach may not be appropriate if the diagnosis has come while your child is very young, but in some cases it can be very liberating and educational to make it a family affair."
