Tip of the Week for March 26, 2012

This Week's Tip:

Finding a suitable Health/Self Hygiene curriculum can be an arduous process. Taking Care of Myself, by Mary Wrobel, is a curriculum that focuses on personal self-care, healthy living, and puberty issues that young people with autism spectrum disorders experience.  It includes detailed social stories written in direct and simple language that provide teachers with great starting point "outlines" that they can personalize or modify depending on their individual students' needs (i.e. add pictures, adjust level of language).

Special Event:

Saturday, March 31st, from 11 am to 6 pm, is the AARC book fair at the Anchorage Barnes & Noble.

We will have entertainment, crafts and an information table at the store during those times. Please come buy and say hello, and participate in the activities.

If you buy anything, mention that you support the bookfair, and a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the AARC by Barnes & Noble. The funds raised will be used to buy books that will be donated to libraries around the state. You can also buy a book from the wish list cart, and donate it to the SESA Library, so it can be shared with library patrons around the state.

Performers who are scheduled to appear:

Rant 'n Raven Morris Dancers, with singer Dawn Berg ; Hoff Hasburg and friends (bluegrass music) ; Mary Anne Green and Alice Wright (folk music) ; Annette & Jason Leyva (flute music; for a preview of their music, you can go to www.peacefulsoundsinak.com); and storyteller Mike Cox, the Man from the Land of the Hand.

We also may have a guest artist who draws silhouettes.
