How to Answer

the Phone

Properly

The phone is still

most business's

primary point of

contact with

customers. And

the way you answer  your company's  phone will form  your customer's first impression of your business.

1) Answer all incoming  phone calls before the third ring.

2) When you answer the phone, be warm and enthusiastic.

Your voice on the

phone is sometimes

the only impression

of your company a

caller will get.

3) When answering

the phone, welcome callers

courteously and identify yourself

and your organization.

Say, for instance,

"Good morning.

How may I help you?"

4) Keep your voice

volume moderate, and speak slowly and clearly when answering  the phone.

5) Make sure that

you have a

professional  message

recorded, that

does the same

thing as tip #3. Update

your answering

message as needed.

Just a reminder that our next meeting on

Program Report
The keynote speaker for our October 3rd meeting will be Keith Currie who is the Sales Manager for the Comox Valley Echo. He will be speaking on "How to Advertise Effectively", and our  spotlight speaker is Terri Perrin of terri PERRIN inc.

I am looking for volunteer members to be spotlight speakers for this year with many thanks to Heather for stepping up for our September meeting.

For our November 7 meeting there is going to be a mini mastermind round table discussion on questions such as:  "How do you find good leads for your business?" and How do use Social Media to promote your business?  with each table discussing a different question and then sharing their answers with the group so that we can all learn from each other. For this I would appreciate members providing questions that they would like to have answered.

Terri Perrin, terri PERRIN ink - professional writing services, will give a brief overview of the proposed Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL) that may go into effect in 2014. If approved, this new legislation will dramatically change how small businesses and nonprofits conduct online marketing. Learn the basics about e-commerce and privacy issues relating to the Anti-Spam Law and how you can be prepared for change. Perrin, an authorized e-commerce solutions provider, will cover this topic in more detail as the keynote speaker for the January 2014 CVSBA meeting.

Membership Report

This association has a new name, new venue and a new membership renewal date. Change is good especially when it's for the better of the association, so am pleased to be moving forward with them.

A couple of benefits of being a member are; no monthly meeting costs and informative talks on business related topics, to name a few.

falling-money.jpg Our next meeting is on October 3 and the price of membership will increase from $75/year to $95/year with everyone renewing annually as of October 1. This makes a more streamlined system. At the end of August I emailed all the members' with their pro-rated dues amount letting them know about the membership rate increase. Thank you for those who renewed early at the September meeting. If, for some reason you did not receive that email and need clarification on what you owe, email or phone me and I can let you know. Looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Web Report

Our new website will be up before our next meeting, so don't forget to get your company and personal profile to me asap. Just a simple blurb about your company and a few personal facts about yourself will be fine. Of course you'll want to include contact info (website, email, phone #s) too. If you have a logo and profile picture, please send that to me in an image file (.jpg, .png, gif).

You will be receiving your new login info (user name and temp. password) by email. This will be sent automatically once I enter your user info into the new website. I will send a follow-up email with instructions on how to login and change your password to something you prefer.  The email will also explain how to make a post to the website. Don't worry this will be so much easier than the previous website. I promise. If you still have difficulty, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Social Report

Our first SBA Social Night was held Sept 18 at Fluid and was a success.  While turn out was a little low, it was our first "kick at the can", and it was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.  Our next SBA Social Night will be Oct 16 at 5pm at Fluid - be there or be square!
