Spring Into Stehly Farms
Brought to you by: Pat Hurley, Vice President Commercial Lines
The Stehly Family has been a huge presence in North County agriculture since Mr. Jerome Stehly (Senior), started farming the property in Valley Center back in 1964. His legacy continues through his sons and their families, as evidenced by the success Jerome & Noel Stehly have had with their organic avocados, berries, and citrus on Stehly Ranch, home to Stehly Farms Organics. The brothers have recently opened several markets in the San Diego area where the public can find their farm fresh produce and juice bar. http://stehlyfarmsorganics.com/
Al Stehly (one of the Stehly brothers) runs Stehly Grove Management, and helps to ensure the success of many of the county's biggest growers of citrus and avocados.
Al's daughter Alysha, a fourth generation Stehly is partnering with her father in a new direction for the family, Stehleon Vineyards. http://stehleonvineyards.com/
Seems the only one that didn't catch the farming bug, luckily for Marrs Maddocks, is head of our Employee Benefits Division, our very own: Neal Stehly.
Stehly Farms Organics is also available at Jimbo's, another one of our treasured clients.

Where have all the Avocados Gone?
Brought to you by: Glenn Ables, Sr. Vice President
Cinco De Mayo, the Avocado's second biggest day of the year is upon us. With water rationed and orchard acreage drastically reduced, I was a tad fretful my corn chips would end up unfettered this holiday.
Hence, I ventured up to Fallbrook to visit with the fine folks at McDaniel Fruit Company to check on this year's avocado supply.
Since 1944, three generations of the McDaniel family have provided Linda Vista Brand Avocados to hungry Americans throughout our great land.
I am happy to report to all you guac-off fans, Avocados are happily rolling into the produce section of your favorite grocery store right now...
In addition to pairing well with a frosty margarita and a corn chip or two, avocados contain Manganese, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Copper, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamins C, B-6, E, Zinc, Niacin, Folate, and Riboflavin, benefiting your heart, teeth, immune system, muscle development, digestion and skin.So do your body and soul some good, grab a few avocados every week they elevate any salad, soup, sandwich.
BTW, the Avocados biggest day, Super Bowl Sunday

Why the heck do I need life insurance? Well, with Life Insurance in place you can:

- Provide a valuable benefit to employees (and owners)
- Replace income lost when a spouse passes away
- Equalize an estate among multiple heirs- and avoid major family arguments
- Pay estate taxes
- Diversify investment and retirement plans
- Leave a substantial gift to a charity
What are the TWO main types of life insurance?
1. Term Insurance
2. Permanent Insurance
How do Insurance companies figure the cost of Life Insurance? They calculate the premium using:
- Age of the insured
- Health of the insured
- Pricing of the product
- Type of life insurance product
- Design of the policy
We specialize in PARs (Policy Audit & Review) here at Marrs Maddocks, so give Neal Stehly a call to get the process started- you may be surprised at what you find and what we can do for you.

Featured Employee of the Month
Healy Ramey
Commercial Lines
Account Manager
Healy Ramey, Senior Account Manager has been working in the insurance field for over 25 years and has been employed with MM+A for nearly 17 years. She is one of our most highly seasoned and tenured employees and works on many of our larger accounts.
Many of you may not be aware, but Healy has actually resided in Arizona for the past 10 years and telecommutes full time from either Arizona, or her vacation home in Montana. She started out with our local office 17 years ago, but when her husband Tim was offered by his employer the opportunity to transfer to Arizona where they could be closer to family, Healy became the trail-blazer for a true paperless work environment in our agency. She moved back to Arizona where she has lived ever since, and telecommutes full time. Thanks to Healy's early efforts and of course some enhanced technology, all of our account managers now have the ability to telecommute from home at least one day each week.
Healy and her husband Tim have two daughters: Jackie graduates from Arizona State with a Business Communications major this month and Rachel just entered the Air Force under their Cyber Systems Operations Program and is stationed in Mississippi, having just completed boot camp in San Antonio. Healy and Tim are now empty nesters and looking forward to the next phase of their lives. They are avid bowlers and many of us here at MM+A have fallen victim to a sound thrashing at the lanes by Healy at a few MM+A bowling events. She definitely knows how to roll a strike! Healy and Tim also enjoy reading and hiking with their three dogs Pepper, Tally and Thor.

Seeds are sprouting at Carlsbad's second community garden! Officially opened on April 1, the "Calavera Schoolhouse" garden is located at the south end of Calavera Hills Park. The garden was constructed with the help of a number of Resident volunteers.
The garden was the result of a successful push in Carlsbad for more community garden space, led by the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative (CCGC). The goal of the CCGC is to have at least one community garden in each quadrant of the city.
