Tessa Edick to Speak

Saturday, April 11 at 3 pm.

Tessa Edick, author of a local newspaper column called "Meet Your Farmer," will discuss her new book--Hudson Valley Food & Farming: Why Didn't Anyone Ever Tell Me That?-- at the Chatham Public Library on Saturday, April 11 at 3 pm.

She is the founder and executive director of the FarmOn! Foundation, which educates the public about the Hudson Valley farming community. Her mission is to promote fresh ingredients and responsible food choices to consumers in the Hudson Valley, which is blessed with many small farms. She helps these farmers find new ways to connect with markets and consumers.

Attendees will have an opportunity to taste some of the finest foods produced in Columbia County, including Old Chatham Sheepherding cheeses, organic nuts from Tierra Farms, appetizers made from local ingredients contributed by Chatham Real Food Market Co-op, and sourdough baguettes from Our Daily Bread. Sponsored by the Friends of the Chatham Public Library, this event is part of their monthly Authors and Artists series.

Chatham Courier Online
2009--present, now available

Patrons of the Chatham and Canaan Public Libraries can now peruse the  Chatham Courier Online, for free, using your library card to log in. Please note that individual articles are uploaded to the site on an ongoing basis, so while the paper edition is published once a week, in this online version the articles are dated as they appear, throughout the week.

The Chatham Courier Online is text-only, no ads, no photos or illustrations. It is searchable, and covers from August 2009 to the present. (We have microfilm of the Courier going back to the 19th century at the Library.) You can sign up for an email alert, to receive a notice whenever a particular name or phrase appears in the Courier.

On this site, you can also read 28 other magazines, through the link on the left sidebar called "America's News Magazines". Some of the titles included are: The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Field and Stream, The National Review, Popular Science, Slate, and Smithsonian. They are also searchable, have no ads or illustrations, and can have email alerts set for them, so read on! This service is made possible by the Friends of the Chatham Public Library.

Tech Tutors
 Thursday, April 16, from 3:00--4:30 p.m.
Tech Tutors are high school students who volunteer to provide one-on-one help to adults  to learn basic computer skills or how to better use their eReader or smartphone.  Basic skills will range from how to use a mouse, set up an email account, search the Internet, or navigate Facebook or Twitter. Bring your laptop, phone, reader, or other device with you. Visit the library, or call us at 392-3666, to register for this program.

1000 Books

sign up now

The goal of the program is to read 1000 books to your child before he or she enters school.

You decide how often and how long you read to your child.

Children from the age of zero to five may sign up to participate.

Reading 1,000 books may sound impossible; however, if you read only 3 books a day to your child, you will complete this program in less than a year. But, don't feel rushed!

1000 Books is generously supported by the Chatham Alumni Association.
