Readings by members of the Chatham Public Library Memoir Writing Groups

Come, listen, and celebrate life, through stories of love, and loss, harsh and gentle memories, and all that has made us what we are today. Perhaps you will be inspired to join a group? Refreshments will be served.

Hugh Howard, author of Houses of Civil War America to speak

Saturday, January 10, 3:00 pm

Historian and author of more than a dozen books on architecture, Howard will discuss Houses of Civil War America, which focuses on the people who lived in each house and their involvement in the Civil War. The homes range from modest cottages to elaborate plantations. The occupants were not just Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis and their top generals, but also Frederick Douglass, Harriett Beecher Stowe, Clara  Barton and Horace Greeley, among others. This event is part of the Authors and Artists series sponsored by the Friends of the Chatham Public Library.

CONTEMPORARY ART READING & DISCUSSION GROUP with Melissa Sarris

Monday

January 12

6:00--7:45 pm

We will be continuing our theme of Narrative in Contemporary Art, with a little show and tell on the side. Folks are welcome to bring in their favorite work of art and tell the group what the artwork means to them. We will also talk about the readings (which we didn't get to at the last meeting,) posted on the blog. Come to the library to learn more and check out the blog at: ChathamArtAgency.blogspot.com

This program is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of NYS Council on the Arts, administered in Columbia County by the Greene County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grant Fund.
