Peer led writing groups are meeting to provide comment and review on the process of memoir writing. New writers are welcome!  If interested, contact Al Stumph at 392-2618, or astumph@fairpoint.net 

   

Mah Jongg

Mondays and Wednesdays

Mah Jongg players meet every Monday and Wednesday in the Teen Room. Beginners are welcome!

The Library will close early at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 24, and be closed on Thursday, December 25. The library will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015.

Friends of the Chatham Public Library

We are a group of volunteers who advocate for the library and provide support in achieving its goals. We promote a wider knowledge and use of library facilities and seek to develop a closer relationship between the library and the community.

 

What Do We Do? 

  • Plan, organize and sponsor a variety of free programs at the library, including talks by popular authors and artists, film screenings and workshops
  • Raise funds to purchase new books, CDs, and DVDs for the library collection
  • Apply for grants for the Summer Reading Program and other events for both children and adults at the library.

Evening Holiday Story Time Grinch

Wednesday, December 3, 6:30 pm

 

An Evening Holiday Story Time featuring the classic Dr. Seuss tale "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Make a heart ornament to take home. Bring a food item for the local food pantry, and your heart might grow two sizes bigger! To register, please call the library at 518-392-3666.

 

A Child's Christmas in Wales

Wednesday, December 10

6:30 pm

Local actor/director Kate Gulliver will read a "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by Dylan Thomas. This lyrical work recalls postmen with "wind-cherried noses" and snow "shaken from white wash buckets down the sky." Refreshments will be served.

Bring a roomy T-Shirt and we will show you how to make an apron for all your holiday baking or to give as a gift.

2:00 pm to 4:00 pm 

Make a colorful window star or snowflake decoration.

 

Afternoon Movie Matinee

Tuesday, December 23

3:00 pm

This movie might be based on a Charles Dickens Christmas novel and stars a green frog, a pink pig and a fuzzy bear.

Can you guess what movie we will be watching ?  Rated G, 86 minutes long.

  CONTEMPORARY ART READING & DISCUSSION GROUP with Melissa Sarris

6:00--7:45 pm  

Show and Tell: narrative in contemporary art.  All participants (past or new) are invited to bring in their favorite work of art to show to the group and tell a little about what it means to them.  If the artwork is too large to bring in or the participant doesn't own the art work, a digital image will do! Come to the library to learn more and check out the blog at: ChathamArtAgency.blogspot.com   

 

This program is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of NYS Council on the Arts, administered in Columbia County by the Greene County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grant Fund. 

Author Craig Gravina Book Signing

Author of Upper Hudson Valley Beer, will be at the Library on Wed, Dec. 3rd, at 6:30 to sign copies of his book.

 

The Upper Hudson Valley has a long and full-bodied brewing tradition. Since the 1980s, there has been a renaissance in Upper Hudson Valley craft brewing, including Newman's, C.H. Evans, Shmaltz and Chatham Brewing.

 

It's Movie time!

Thanks to a generous donation from the John M. Gross Charitable Gift Fund to the Friends of the Chatham Public Library, we have added a stack of classic films on DVD, including Citizen Kane, Ben Hur, and 42nd Street. Check it out!
