This Sunday, May 15th
Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 am
Preaching: Rev. Kelly Love
Sermon Topic: "Davis UMC is Welcoming and Affirming"

We are currently in a 3-part sermon series exploring the DNA of DUMC - who we are. This Sunday will be the second in the series. Being able to accept and welcome people as they are is an important part of who we are and hope to be as DUMC - and something people in the church have already experienced on the receiving end. How might God continue to shape this quality in us?

This Sunday is Pentecost!  Don't forget to wear red!

Cookies Needed for "Almost Like Mom's" Care Packages

We need lots of homemade cookies to put in the next batch of "Almost Like Mom's" Finals Care Packages. We need them on Saturday, May 21st. Going to be gone that weekend? No problem. You can bake them ahead, put them in ziplock bags, label them, and put them in the church freezer. We could also use some oranges, and/or money to help buy the other goodies we put in the care packages. Willing to help with this important outreach to college students? Please e-mail Beth Flory at bethflory007@gmail.com or call her at (530) 756-2617.

4. Warm fuzzy blankets needed!

United Methodist Women have a request from Valerie Zeller, "their" Yolo County social worker, and are hoping you can help. The request is for 5-10 twin size, warm, fuzzy blankets for the kids who are removed from their parents after hours. These kids have to spend the night at the Valerie's office until foster homes are found for them.

"If you are able to provide some comfort and warmth with a new or gently used blanket, it would be a greatly appreciated gesture.  The kids will then take their new blankets with them and hopefully get some sense of comfort during their so often confusing and traumatic situation."  -- Valerie

Please call or email Louanne Horsfield, 530-759-9202 and brainh@aol.com if you have or obtain a blanket and I will come pick it up.

5. New Bus Bench

We have installed an EXPERIMENTAL, TEMPORARY bus stop bench on church property but very close to the bus stop.

Why temporary?
There has been discussion about having a welcoming bus bench as we have a bus stop right in front of our church. To install a bench that is similar to benches being installed by the city would cost around $2,000.  But what do we know about managing and maintaining a bus bench and the immediate surrounding? Possibly not very much.
So to avoid any possible regret, we have spent about $40 to build, paint and install a very simple 8 ft. long bench that will be in place for 1 year. One year's worth of experience will allow us to decide whither purchase a "real" bench or abandon the idea.
