This Sunday, May 1st
Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 am

Worship this week will be a "celebration of sacraments," with both baptism and communion celebrated. Sacraments are "outward and visible signs of an inward and spiritual grace." For United Methodists along with other Protestants, the two sacraments are baptism and communion. Both baptism and communion use tangible elements (water, bread, juice/wine) to represent God's grace given to us. Join us in worship as Pastor Kelly explores the meaning and practice of sacraments for United Methodists and celebrate communion, and, at 11:00, celebrate a baptism as well. The scriptures are Luke 3:15-16, 21-22 and Luke 22:7-16

2. Bicycle Blessing and Clinic, May 1st (THIS SUNDAY)

Calling all bicycles and their riders!! Bring your bicycles to church on Sunday, May 1st. This day will be our "kick-off" for May Is Bike Month, a month-long effort to encourage each other to ride our bikes more often and drive less. If bicycling is difficult for you, see if you can find someone to carpool with in May. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint for May! Check out the Bike Table on Sunday or ask Karen Hudson-Bates for details!

Below are planned activities for the month:
May 1stBring Your Bike to Church Sunday!!
  • Bike Blessing: Pastor Kelly will bless the bikes at the end of each service on the patio near the labyrinth.
  • Bring your bike to our Bike Clinic 9:30-1:00 p.m.! Stop by with your bike and get help or learn how to do simple repairs and adjustments on your bike.
  • Sign up on the May Is Bike Month website: http://www.mayisbikemonth.com/  to log your miles along with the rest of the DUMC riders for the month of May, and help us beat our miles from last year! Join with thousands of bicyclists around the greater Sacramento area in reaching for 2 million miles this year! Check the table after both services for help in signing up.
May 1-31: Ride your bike, and keep track of how many miles you ride for the month!

3. Blessing Bag Pick-Up This Sunday

Blessing Bags will be available for pick up after both services this Sunday. Thank you to everyone who purchased Blessing Bags from the youth group to support the Yolo Food Bank!

Wednesday Bible Study Goes to Philippi!

Well, we're going in spirit at least.

On May 4th we will turn to the Book of Philippians. Rosa says it is her favorite.

We have enjoyed the N.T. Wright study guide for Mark so much that we will use his book on Philippians to find out what is in it for us today. The study will last approximately 3 months BUT with the individual chapter format, it is easy to come when you can and skip when you can't. NO HOMEWORK required.

Wednesdays, 1:30 - 3 pm. Hope to see you there!
