This six week series of sacred and respectful conversations will be presented at Davis Community Church.  An interfaith group in Davis will host the series with the goal of helping participants better understand the racial tensions facing us and provide insight into how we can respond in an informed way. Discussions are based on information provided through webcasts, so no outside reading is required. Facilitators will provide references for those who wish to delve deeper into topics
.
The first session is Monday, February 8th, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.  Subsequent meetings will be on Wednesday evenings, February 17th to March 16th from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.   Each session will begin with snacks one-half hour prior to the start of the program.  Programs include a webcast followed by facilitated small-group discussions.  All sessions will end at 8:30 pm.

2. Refugee "Welcome Kit" Collection Continues

The Church and Society Ministry understands this congregation's desire to do something to help the thousands of Middle Eastern people displaced by war and ISIS.  At present we are waiting for responses from other local churches regarding a large joint project to help resettle arriving refugee families.  In the meantime,  we are launching a smaller project within our church to create "Welcome Kits."

Refugees often flee their homes at a moment's notice, and arrive at our airport with only a few suitcases in hand. Welcome Kits provide families with the basic household items they need for their new start.

On January 31st, we began collecting items for 4 different Welcome Kits - Kitchen, Bathroom, Household,  and Cleaning.  (See attached for specific items needed.)  Sign ups are continuing this Sunday, February 7th.    If you have already signed up to bring something, you can bring it on Sunday and put it in one of the plastic tubs.  The tubs, which are labeled for each kit,  are located in the Fellowship Hall.  The tubs will continue to be available for you to put your things in through most of February.

The Welcome Kits will then be given to Opening Doors, one of three agencies approved to help resettle refugees in the Sacramento area.

3. Mae Etta Memorial Bench Upkeep Project

Our beautiful Mae Etta Castain memorial bench needs some care. The wooden surfaces need to be treated. If you have the skills to treat outdoor wooden furniture please contact Brian Horsfield (or any Trustee).
