Exploring Membership Class, January 30th

Are you new to Davis UMC? Or maybe you've been attending forever and just have never officially joined? Pastor Kelly will be offering a gathering for "exploring membership" on Saturday, January 30th, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.

All are welcome! There is no obligation to become a member at the end of the time - just an open invitation to explore and enjoy. This is a chance for participants to get to know one another and share the life journeys that have brought you to this church. In this time we will: learn about Davis United Methodist Church; learn some core beliefs and principles of the Christian faith and United Methodism; and learn what the commitment of membership means in the United Methodist Church.

Lunch will be provided! We can provide child care, too - just let us know you need it! RSVP so we know how much food to prepare. Call the church office (756-2170) or email (pastorkelly@davisumc.org).

8. Celebration of Abraham: "Faith Not Fear," January 31st

The topic of this year's Celebration of Abraham is Faith not Fear. This year we have seen US politicians use fear of refugees and religious minorities for political advantage. We as Christians must show that our faith believes Christ's words "Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."
The Celebration is on Sunday, January 31st at 3 pm in the Saint James Community Hall.

1. Yolo County Food Truck Campaign Update

Hurray!! The campaign to raise the money needed to buy a refrigerator truck Yolo County Food Bank was a success!!The campaign raised over $100,000-enough to buy the truck and set up a fund to pay for associated costs and maintenance. Thank you to all who donated to make this possible. Now the Yolo County Food Bank can bring fresh food to the people who need the Food Bank. Over 44,000 people in Yolo County often go hungry.

2.
Great start to lower sewage bills!

During the period from Nov 6 to Dec 5 we used only 4 CCF of water.  This is important as the water consumption during Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb determine our monthly sewer bill starting in the fall.

As background, the winter of 2012/13 we consumed an average of 41 CCF per month. The resulting sewer bill was $213/mon for 12 months. For the winter of 2014/15 our average water consumption was a little less than 15 CCF so our monthly sewer charge starting last December is only $83 per month.

Money not spent on utilities is available for missions so keep up the good work and use water wisely.

3. Adult Volunteers Needed for Occasional Help in the Nursery

Davis UMC is blessed to have several incredibly capable childcare assistants on staff. However, there their are occasional times throughout the year (primarily on Sundays and around holidays) that we are not able to find two of them (as required per the church's Safe Sanctuary policy) to staff the nursery. During these times it would be wonderful to have a couple of adult volunteers from the church who would be willing to step in and assist in the nursery for an hour or two.  If you would be willing to be on this back-up list contact Anna in the church office (davisumc@davisumc.org)
