This Sunday, January 17th
Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 am
This Sunday we mark the weekend of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. In worship we will remember Dr. King, but will also consider where things stand today with the issues Dr. King worked for and cared about, looking at some aspects of the struggle for racial justice over the past year. Rev. Kelly Love's sermon is titled "King's Dream and Today's Reality." The scripture is Deuteronomy 34:1-12 - reminding us of another prophet who dreamed of a promised land but did not live to see it.

All-Church Baby Shower for Seth Wise, THIS SUNDAY

An All-Church Baby Shower will be held on Sunday, January 17th, in Fellowship Hall after the 11:00 service. We are welcoming baby Seth Keaton Wise, born to Kristine and Matthew Wise (and siblings Evan and Haylee) on November 16th, 2015.

As always we will be presenting them with individual wishes for Seth, as well as simple gifts.   Since the family has been generously blessed with gifts from family and friends, Kristine has requested that gifts be directed either to Yolo Crisis Nursery or Kylie Lilich Foundation in Woodland, which provides layettes to new moms who have nothing and are in dire need.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in this important ministry.  If possible, please bring finger food to share.

5. Exploring Membership Class, January 30th

Are you new to Davis UMC? Or maybe you've been attending forever and just have never officially joined? Pastor Kelly will be offering a gathering for "exploring membership" on Saturday, January 30th, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.

All are welcome! There is no obligation to become a member at the end of the time - just an open invitation to explore and enjoy. This is a chance for participants to get to know one another and share the life journeys that have brought you to this church. In this time we will: learn about Davis United Methodist Church; learn some core beliefs and principles of the Christian faith and United Methodism; and learn what the commitment of membership means in the United Methodist Church.

Lunch will be provided! We can provide child care, too - just let us know you need it! RSVP so we know how much food to prepare. Call the church office (756-2170) or email (pastorkelly@davisumc.org).

6. Celebration of Abraham: Faith Not Fear, January 31st

The topic of this year's Celebration of Abraham is Faith not Fear. This year we have seen US politicians use fear of refugees and religious minorities for political advantage. We as Christians must show that our faith believes Christ's words "Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."
The Celebration is on Sunday, January 31st at 3 pm in the Saint James Community Hall.

7. Mix-Sups Sign-Ups

Mix-Sups dinners are back for February through May!  Share a meal with adult church friends each month.  Get to know others better!  Paul Grench will be answering questions and doing sign-ups after each service on the 17th and 24th.

Paul will also be gauging interest in a separate parents with young kids group that could run at the same time.  Please let Paul know if you'd be interested in this, and give him your input on how it might work.
