This Sunday, December 6th
Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 am
One focus in the season of Advent is anticipating the coming of a savior. But what does that mean? To save us from what - or for what? Luke uses the language of God coming to help, to "deliver" God's people. The need for deliverance, or to be rescued from enemies/from those who hate surely reminds us of the plight of refugees today. Our Advent hymn suggests that for everyone born, there is a place to live without fear. This week, interpretations of Christian salvation will be considered in Pastor Kelly's sermon "For Everyone Born: A Place Without Fear." The scripture readings are Luke 1:68-79, 3:1-6.

3.  Staff Christmas Gift

An Advent tradition at DUMC is to show our appreciation for staff by presenting them with a cash gift.  This  "thank-you" is sweetened by the fact that each person chips in to create the gift making it truly from our Church Community.

Please show our staff how much you appreciate their hard work by contributing whatever you can toward a holiday gift that is given to each staff member. On December 5th and 12th please place your contribution in the white envelope in the bulletin or pew and write "Staff Holiday Gift" on the outside. If you prefer, you can place your contribution in the SPRC mailbox prior to December 12th, or mail your donation to the church office so that it arrives on or before December 11th.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Chair, Staff-Parish Relations Committee

4. "Almost Like Mom's Care Packages, Dec. 5th

We need lots of homemade cookies to put in the next batch of "Almost Like Mom's Finals Care Packages." We need them on Saturday, December 5th. Going to be gone that weekend? No problem. You can bake them ahead, put them in ziplock bags, label them and put them in the church freezer. We could also use some oranges, and/or money to help buy the other goodies we put in the care packages.  Willing to help with this important outreach to college students? Please e-mail Beth Flory at bethflory007@gmail.com or call her at (530) 756-2617.
5. Help Feed the Hungry (Students)

CA House is looking for a few people to support our
Monday night Christian worship ministry by helping with food.  We offer a students a hybrid worship/bible study every Monday night when school is in session, and the event concludes with breaking bread together.  We are looking to provide a mix of vegan and regular main course options each week, along with a side vegetable dish or salad.  We are hoping to get support from our partner churches each once a month, and are asking for help from DUMC on the third Monday of each month.  If you would be willing to help by providing a single dish or a whole meal every month or two, please contact Jake Whittaker (jake@cahouse.org or 753-2000).

6. Year-End Giving

In order to comply with IRS guidelines regarding year-end giving, all donations must either be received in person by December 31st or postmarked by December 31st if mailed.

For mail-in donations received on or after December 31st, the envelopes will be retained in order to confirm that the donations were postmarked by December 31st.  Financial Secretaries will verify the postmark dates and will retain the envelopes with the Income Statement files in the church office.  If you are working with a banking or other financial institution to make your donation, you must ensure that the institution can provide the December 31st postmark.

For drop-in donations, staff will be available on Thursday, Dec 31st until 12:00 pm to accept your walk-in donations for 2015.
