Last Sunday we considered how a mindful approach to stewardship can help us know ourselves and our values. In her sermon this Sunday, "Aligning Our Practice," Pastor Kelly will discuss how we put our values into practice - the second and final installment on our stewardship theme of Mindful Giving. The scripture reading is James 1:22-27. Also check out the stewardship resources on our web page!

1. 2015 Stewardship Programs and Opportunities
Friday, October 9th we will we have a shared meal and evening of fellowship starting at 6 PM in the Fellowship Hall. The menu is Green Salad, Baked Potato Bar, Kid Friendly Mac & Cheese, and Dessert. We still need a few items to round out the meal. If you plan to attend, but did not sign up to bring an item last Sunday, call or email Lorraine Beaman at 530-219-9651 or jlbcareers@sbcglobal.net by noon on Friday and let her know which of the following you would like to bring: a bag of grated cheese, a pound of butter, 3 fresh tomatoes diced, or a can of sliced olives. Sunday, October 11th is Consecration Sunday - we consecrate our commitments to DUMC for 2016. To consecrate is to devote, to dedicate, to ordain. Let us renew our commitment to be the hands and heart of Jesus in our community, and celebrate that commitment with one another. Pledge cards will be available in your bulletin, or if you would like to fill it out before you come to service, you can find it here. Fellowship will be a full brunch. Plan to stay after service to visit and enjoy a meal with new and old friends.

2. Non-Violence For Social Change Class
Sundays Oct. 11-Nov. 15, 12:15-1:30 in Grace Cafe
This class will be a six-week introduction to Christian non-violence, with a special focus on productive responses to injustice.

3. CA House Indian Dinner, Oct. 11th

4. All-Church Work Day, October 17th
Save the date for the annual Fall all-church workday! Actually it will be a work-morning from 9-12 on Saturday, October 17th. No experience necessary. We can help make the church spiffy for the upcoming holidays.

5. "SEVEN: The Play," Sunday, October 18th
This play tells the stories of seven women from around the world who not only overcame oppressive situations like rape and domestic abuse, but also developed organizations to help other women. The event is a fundraiser for two organizations-- Empower Yolo, a local non-profit that serves victims of domestic violence and trafficking, and the International Rescue Committee, which helps victims of domestic violence and trafficking, and currently is working in the Syrian refugee camps.
"Seven: The Play" will show at the Veteran Memorial Theater, 203 E 14 Street at 3 pm. Tickets are available on line at http://empoweryolo/seven

2. Women in Christian Traditions, by Rebecca Moore
Avid Reader bookstore in Davis is now stocking copies of Rebecca Moore's recently published book. A retired Professor of Religious Studies at San Diego State University, Rebecca Moore is also the daughter of our former pastor, John Moore. (Published by NYU Press, $17)

3. Pastor Kelly Vacation Pastor Kelly will be on vacation October 12-20. On Sunday, October 18th, the Rev. Don Fado will be our guest preacher. Contact information for who to call for pastoral care will be available from Anna in the church office, on the church calendar (click the "Pastor Kelly on vacation" note on any day during that week), or in an auto-reply to emails sent to Pastor Kelly. |
