This Sunday, August 23rd
Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 am
Pastor Kelly's summer series of "Spirit(ed) Conversations" is winding down, with this Sunday being the next-to-last in the series. This week's topic comes from a Facebook suggestion to how white people relate to racism. There are particular responsibilities for white people in a racist society - and taking these to heart is not unlike the journey of transformation Christ invites us to. Pastor Kelly's sermon is "Anti-Racism and Christian Transformation." The scripture is Romans 6:1-11.

3. Contemporary Issues Forum Coordinator Needed

The Contemporary Issues Forum meets each week between services (from 9:45 to 10:45).  The current coordinator, Susan Padgett, will be stepping down and we are looking for someone who would be interested in taking her place.

The format of the forum is flexible.  It can include speakers, films, conversations, book studies, etc.  Forum is part of the Church and Society ministry of DUMC.  If you are interested in coordinating or interested in facilitating a conversation on a particular topic, please contact Susan at [email protected] or Paul Grench at [email protected].

4. UMW will not be meeting in August

We will return to our regular meeting schedule in September with a program reporting on the books in the UMW reading program.

5. Davis Community Meals Needs Volunteers!

At this time DCM is in need of volunteers in our Resource Center. The hours are part-time and flexible: Monday - Friday, between 8am - 4pm. We ask for 2 hours once a week! All that is asked is that you keep to the same schedule each week.

Secondly, volunteers are needed to work in the DCM transitional housing program from 6 pm-9 pm or 6 pm-11 pm. This is a clean and sober living environment. Training is provided.

DCM is also looking for people who can serve as back-ups for weekend morning shifts: Saturday or Sunday morning from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the shelter. The shelter is closed to the public on weekend mornings and volunteers usually find time to do some studying or reading in addition to socializing with clients.

On occasion, trained volunteers are needed to cover evening shifts at the last minute if a volunteer is ill or has an emergency.

Davis Community Meals prefers that volunteers have experience working with homeless or low-income families or individuals, but a compassionate attitude is
more important. To ask questions or express interest contact Harmony Scopazzi - the Davis Community Meals Volunteer Coordinator - at [email protected] or 530-220-4089.
