Baltimore Show Report and Newps |
March 23, 2013 |
|
Greetings!
At the recent Baltimore show, lower-cost coins sold extremely well, but the higher-cost coins were slower than usual. However, the table was busy constantly and when we added it up, we had a very good show. Our newps include some great Seated Quarters incl. a great 1851-O, Bust Halves incl. a nice 1830 Large Letters and Seated Halves incl. an 1849 Doubled Date in AU, an 1875-S Micro s in EF, and a nice 1870-CC in PCGS AU-50. We also acquired some other interesting coins including a decent 1853-O NA half dime, an 1825 B-1 quarter, an 1877-S DDR Trade dollar, a PCGS slabbed 1878-CC Trade dollar, and a high-grade PCGS slabbed example of the rare 1873 Large/Small Date Shield Nickel. All of our coins including the following newps are posted on our website www.richuhrichcoins.com. If you see any coin(s) of interest, please call (717)533-2935 or (717)579-8238 (cell) or e-mail us at richuhrichcoins@comcast.net to reserve the coin(s) OUR NEWPS ARE:

Words of Wisdom from an Expert Collector |
Dr. Pete Shireman is an expert collector of Barber Half Dollars. In fact, you may have seen his name on several slabbed Barber Halves. The following is his statement, reprinted with permission: "I am amazed in my observations at coin shows how often collectors think that whatever price guide they have with them is gospel. Price guides are useful for many things, but there are many coins that are bought and sold at prices nowhere near these guides. I have seen countless people look at a very nice coin, look at their price guide du jour and pass on a rare and very nice coin that is impossible to find, merely because the price is too high."
I see this a few times at just about every coin show. At a recent show, a customer was happy to find a coin for which he had been searching for 5 years. His price guide said it was worth $500. He could have bought my coin for $600, but he decided to pass, and continue to look for one for $500. My thinking is that if you have been looking for 5 years for a coin at $500, and haven't found one, then it is entirely possible that that coin isn't a $500 coin any more. Remember, you probably aren't the only person looking for that coin. Another way of looking at it is that the $100 premium represents $20 per year for the 5 years of looking. And how much is your time worth?

Looking Toward The Future |
My next shows are local shows in Lancaster, PA on April 6 and York, PA on April 13. My next big show is Central States in Schaumburg, IL Wednesday, April 24 through Saturday, April 27. I will be at Table #1810. In May I have the Hershey, PA show followed by ANA in New Orleans, LA, then a local show in Chambersburg, PA. Hope to see you at one or more of those shows!
