Sherri's "Front Line Warrior Angel"

A little over a year ago you wouldn't have recognized Sherri. She was in a profound state of sadness. Her hair had not been combed; her teeth had not been brushed; she couldn't sleep; and she cried all the time.

Months earlier, Sherri had been a happily married, stay-at-home mom raising her 13 year old son, Allen. She thought her marriage was built on love and mutual respect, until she discovered her husband had a second life.

Sherri sunk under the weight of her new reality. She managed the strength to pack her son's room, gather a few of her personal items, and leave her home. It was the right decision. However, she only had $2.25 to her name. She immediately worried about food, clothing, and her son's education.

Suddenly she remembered a phone number she had heard mentioned on the radio, 2-1-1. She knew it was a number where people in crisis can find help and support.

It was hard to make that call. Sherri was connected to Renee, a 2-1-1 Intervention Specialist, and the healing journey began.  Renee helped her to stay calm and focus.  She encouraged Sherri and assured her she was going to be ok.  She helped her find resources to take care of her son and helped her with a plan to move forward.

Sherri refers to Renee as her "Front Line Warrior Angel" and said this about her experience with the Crisis Center, "It takes a special person to handle a call like mine and a special organization to provide Renee with the training and resources to move troubled souls in a positive direction. Today I stand before you empowered. I am strong, I am happy, I am self-sufficient!"

Sherri's story was told through a special video at the Cup of Compassion breakfast. To watch the video, please click HERE.

Because of Crisis Center donors, including members of the Sustainer Society, Legacy Society and Circle of Caring, there was someone to answer Sherri's call for help in her hour of despair. Thank you for your support!
