Giving Thanks for Giving
By Jamie Klingman
As Thanksgiving approaches and many of us look forward to spending time with family and friends, we also take time to reflect upon those things in life for which we are grateful.
I'm grateful the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay exists and that people are ready to help 24/7, even on holidays like Thanksgiving! For many people, the holidays are a season of sadness. The Crisis Center assures that people have someone to talk to, any time, any day. I'm also grateful to every person brave enough to reach out when they need help and that there will be a caring and compassionate person in 2-1-1 to answer that call.
I'm most grateful, though, for those whose gifts of time, talent, and treasure allow the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to continue to serve our community. Without donors and volunteers, the programs that provide help, hope, and healing to thousands of people would cease. Suicide hotline calls would go unanswered and sexual assault victims would find themselves in a cold, sterile, hospital waiting room.
Thankfully, the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is supported by an amazing group of supporters and volunteers. Donors give their treasure to help keep programs running. Volunteers, like our sexual assault advocates, meet survivors at the Crisis Center, regardless of the hour.
On behalf of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay's Board of Directors, thank you! Thank you to our
Circle of Life Sustainer Society members,
Corporate Partners,
Legacy Society members,
Women in Action members, and
donors. Thank you to our
volunteers who put the needs of others ahead of themselves. Thank you to anyone who has handed out a 2-1-1 card, told people why you're involved, or invited someone on a Crisis Center tour!
No one is immune from crisis. Your support of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay assures that no one has to face crisis alone, and that is what I'm most grateful for this Thanksgiving.
