Laura, Fred & Daisy Lay at Daisy's 1st Birthday Party
|
Keeping up with Fred and Laura Lay
Laura and Fred Lay are a model example of people who live by the motto "Carpe Diem!" Their days are filled as busy professionals operating Construction Services Inc. of Tampa (CSI), where they're both involved in assuring the success and prosperity of their business. When the work day ends, they still have their hands full as adoptive parents to their 1 year old daughter, Daisy.
When it comes to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Fred and Laura are "all in" with their time, talent and treasure. Fred serves as a member of the Crisis Center's board of directors and Laura is a member of Women in Action. They are also Crisis Center "ambassadors" by hosting a table - or two! - each year at the Cup of Compassion breakfast and encouraging people to tour and get involved with the center. The Lays are also passionate about TransCare, the Crisis Center's medical transportation service. They helped celebrate EMS week with the Crisis Center's TransCare employees by providing lunch, goodie bags and custom made shirts.
Fred and Laura's financial commitment to the Crisis Center is also significant. CSI is one of the Crisis Center's corporate partners and they are both members of the Sustainer Society and the Legacy Society.
When they recently celebrated their daughter Daisy's first birthday, they decided to do something very special. Daisy's birthday party was a circus-themed fantastic, fun-filled celebration that included face painting, a magician, and acrobats. In lieu of gifts, they asked their guests to contribute to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and another charity. 150 guests responded with over $1,500 in cash and more than 900 individual items that included clothes, personal care products and books. These items will help families in need, sexual assault survivors, and kids who receive counseling at Corbett Trauma Center. After the party, Laura reflected about what had taken place:
"Just think...each of these items can help one person...if each person was given 1 item...our little girl through the help of her friends can touch 518 sexual assault victims and 402 children in need. Small deeds add up to big change. If this is year one...I can't wait to see what else Daisy does in life."
It is through the support of the Fred and Laura, and people like you, that the Crisis Center is able to provide support to people in need. A team of people - donors, volunteers, and staff - make it possible for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to be that extraordinary place people turn to in times of crisis.
