Women find Help, Hope, and Healing at the Crisis Center

Over the last 50 years, American women have come far in securing basic rights and independence. We certainly have the right to pursue higher education, travel the world, access appropriate medical care and in the context of that medical care, make decisions necessary to our health.  Women hold positions of authority in corporate and government settings and in more and more households, are the primary breadwinner for the family.

In spite of gains in status, women still face the prevalence of sexual and domestic violence. One out of every six American women has been the victim of a sexual assault in her lifetime. While men are not excluded from victimization, the overwhelming majority of victims are women and children. Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is committed to ending this violence by engaging our community though programs like Take Back The Night, Men Stopping Violence Against Women and educational initiatives related to dating violence, bullying, LGBT concerns and human trafficking.

Even with community education, violence still happens. That is why we are here.  When someone reaches out to the Crisis Center for help, we respond to their need with trauma counseling, case management, victim advocacy and crisis intervention through 2-1-1. At the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, women are empowered to find their inner voice as they find healing from trauma with strength and courage.

Teams of people - staff, volunteers and donors - make it possible for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to be that extraordinary place women turn to in times of crisis.  If you are interested in learning more about the Crisis Center and how you can help, we invite you to take a tour of our facility.
