Donor Profile: Linda Miller
For over 40 years the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay has been there for people in times of crisis. For nearly 30 of those years, Linda Miller has been serving as a volunteer, donor and community leader.
Linda was originally a board member with Sexual Abuse Treatment Center, Inc. In 1987, the Sexual Abuse Treatment Center, Inc. merged with the Hillsborough County Crisis Center, Inc. Linda remained on the board, and the organization was eventually renamed the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. Her background in finance and professional experience in project development contributed to the expansion of the Crisis Center over the years. Linda discusses how things have changed over time.
"The financial underpinnings of the Crisis Center are much stronger today. The organization didn't wallow when government funding was cut. We became more self-sufficient by growing TransCare and expanding the effort to increase donations."
Linda has served as a volunteer board member, board chair, finance committee member and finance committee chair. She always supported the Crisis Center financially, but a few years ago she saw it made sense to join the Sustainer Society as a founding member of the Circle of Hope.
"Having sustainable income is crucial to the Crisis Center. It's helpful to know that the income is going to be there year after year. I know these funds are going to help sexual assault and child abuse victims, and that the services will be provided in an efficient manner."
In addition, when Linda and her husband Mitch evaluated their will, they decide on two main priorities. They wanted to take care of their family, and they wanted to leave a gift to the organizations they support. That's when they decided to join the Legacy Society, by including the Crisis Center as a beneficiary.
