Clearwater Detective Receives Charlie
Hounchell Community Advocate Award

The Crisis Center lost a great friend and leader last year when Charlie Hounchell passed away at age 53. Charlie served on the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay's Board of Directors and was an enthusiastic community activist and advocate.

In his memory, the Crisis Center created an annual award that's presented by the Crisis Center's Sexual Assault Services department and the Sexual Violence Task Force of Tampa Bay. The award honors an outstanding individual who is leading the fight to end sexual violence. In 2013, the Hounchell Award was presented to Tampa Police Chief, Jane Castor.

On July 31st, the 2014 award was presented to Detective James McBride of the Clearwater Police Department. Detective McBride heads the Clearwater/Tampa Bay Area Task Force on Human Trafficking (CATFHT). He received the award for his leadership in fighting human trafficking, specifically human sex trafficking. During his 18 years with the Clearwater Police Department, Detective McBride has built a reputation for working side-by-side with survivors of human trafficking, and bringing together the many agencies who have the power to help.

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay works in conjunction with the Clearwater Police Department and additional law enforcement agencies to help victims of human sex trafficking so they start to feel safe, both physically and emotionally. It takes a team effort and Crisis Center donors are crucial members of that team. Your support is helping the fight to end human trafficking in the Tampa Bay area!
