Impacting the Lives of
Women at the Crisis Center
I think one of the greatest advancements in civilization is the invention of GPS that I can hold in my hand. I'm blown away by the fact that my phone tells me exactly where I am on the planet and how long it will take me to get to my destination.
It's easy to forget that just a few years back we were unfolding maps to make our way in unfamiliar surroundings. I have become completely dependent on GPS for navigating everywhere. If I lose the signal on my phone, I am completely lost.
I think the same is true in navigating life. In an ideal world, we chart out the direction we want our life to take and then begin a journey to fulfillment and happiness. The reality is we all experience unexpected bumps in the road and even detours that take us off our planned path. For most of us, adapting to these bumps and detours allows us to get back on track or find a better path. However, there are many people in our community where their journey is dramatically changed, if not obliterated as they experience domestic violence, sexual assault, and other traumatic events. These events can happen as a young child, a youth
just starting to figure out the path to life's journey or well into adulthood when
the path seems clear one day and completely lost the next.
This month we share stories of women who were tossed onto a completely
different and terrifying path as they experienced violence and trauma in their lives. They needed help to find their way back and they turned to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. At the Crisis Center, they found the help they needed to change course and take control of their lives and journeys.
It takes a team of people that includes volunteers, staff and donors to help women in our community during their time of Crisis. If you're interested in learning more about the Crisis Center and how you can help, we'd like to invite you to take a tour of our facility.
