| Georgia Devening and her brother, Gary. |
When Georgia and Bill Devening began planning for the future of their estate, it was a natural fit to work with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to accomplish their charitable goals.
Georgia has spearheaded the Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled as the executive director since 2001. She
knew how instrumental the organization was in improving the health and wellness of adults with developmental disabilities. Her brother, Gary, had been a client of the organization since 1998. She understood the value of working with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation since her organization had been a longtime participant of the charitable organization endowment program. Establishing a personal endowment to provide support for the mission of the foundation made sense.
After meeting with their attorney, Georgia and her husband made a provision in their estate plan to assist the disabled. The contribution will create an advised fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to benefit the Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled. By doing so, they have insured that there is an annual income stream to assist in meeting the needs of the foundation for years into the future.
"Nonprofits greatly depend on gifts to help cover operations," Georgia stressed. "It's hard for nonprofits to save money unless someone helps them. I know what a good reputation the Oklahoma City Community Foundation has. They have longevity, and I know the money that I invested with them will not go to waste."
