Opportunities for Children iFund Program Awards $114,000 in Grants
|
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees recently approved $114,000 in grants to seven charitable organizations through the Opportunities for Children iFund program. The program supports grants to organizations in central Oklahoma that provide direct services for children from birth to age 14 and offer access to opportunities that otherwise would not be available. The following grants were awarded: - Oklahoma City Ballet - $10,000 to expand their BalletReach program, which provides ballet classes and arts education to children in K-12 grades in Oklahoma City and Ada. The program will be added to Britton Elementary and Arbor Grove Elementary. The Oklahoma City Schools already participating include: Crutcho Elementary, Santa Fe South Elementary and John Rex Elementary. There is also a program at the Ada Child Development Center in Ada.
- Oklahoma's Children Theatre - $15,000 to expand their Page to Stage program for Title 1 schools. The program focuses on literacy, comprehension and "reading for meaning" and is currently for students in second grade. The program will expand to fourth grade students in the 2015-16 school year.
- Oklahoma City Museum of Art - $10,000 to support their Healing Arts Outreach program that brings arts education and a creative outlet to the children who are in the St. Anthony Behavioral Medicine Center.
- Hearts for Hearing Foundation - $30,000 to expand the size of their annual Summer Camp, "Meet me Underneath the Oklahoma Sky," for children who have hearing loss so that more campers can attend as well as add a leadership skills program for pre-teens.
- Boy Scouts of America - Last Frontier Council - up to $30,000 to support the expansion of five Cub Scout Packs at elementary schools in Oklahoma City that didn't have a scouting program in 2014-15. The schools are Stand Watie Elementary, Arthur Elementary, Rockwood Elementary, Fillmore Elementary and another school TBD.
- Positive Tomorrows - $10,000 to hire a tutor to meet with enrolled students after their classes for a minimum of three days a week. Positive Tomorrows is the only elementary school in Oklahoma specifically for homeless children and their families.
- Good Shepherd Catholic School at Mercy - $9,000 to introduce a student peer integration program at two locations for students ages five -nine who have been diagnosed with autism.
