American Made: Mackinac Bridge
Located on Interstate 75 in northern Michigan at the Straits of Mackinac (where Lake Mighigan and Lake Huron meet), the Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. At five-miles long, including approaches, It is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere and currently the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world.
Plans for a bridge began in July 1888 as an endeavor to lengthen the short business season for the famous Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island. It took years of financial planning, various delays (including WWI, WWII and the Korean Conflict), changes in government requirements, hazards of marine construction over the turbulent waters, etc., before the bridge finally commenced construction on May 7, 1954. and opened according to schedule on November 1, 1957.
Designed by the world's foremost bridge designer and engineer, Dr. Steinman (1887-1967) and his associates designed more than 400 bridges on five continents. He regarded the Mackinac Bridge as his "crowning achievement" and exemplifies Steinman's talent for combining beauty in design with engineering utility and durability. With a critical wind velocity of infinity, it represents an aerodynamic stability never before attained in suspension bridge design. Steinman and his firm also designed the International Bridge connecting the Sault Ste. Maries of Michigan and Ontario.
The Mackinac Bridge was featured on Mike Rowe's TV show, Dirty Jobs in August 2007 as he participated in hand-stripping and repainting the interior towers (done once per year), hand-painting (with a paint glove) the exterior suspension cables (done only May-October because of weather and wind during winter months), and changing a read beacon light on a high tower. Originally in 1953, annual maintenance costs were set at $417,000 paid for out of gasoline and licese plate taxes. As the last of the Mackinac Bridge bonds were retired July 1, 1986, fare revenues are now used to operate and maintain te Bridge and repay the State of Michigan for monies advanced to the Bridge Authority since the facility opened to traffic in 1957.
Approximately 12,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day. (The 100 Millionth crossing was celebrated on June 25, 1998.)

November Business Book Pick
Fueled By Failure, by Jeremy Bloom. Hardcover, 180 pages; published by Entrepreneur Press, May 19, 2015; ISBN-10: 1599185636, ISBN-13:978-1599185637.
Learning how to constructively deal with failure is the most important step that you can take towards accomplishing your biggest goals. No matter who you are or what you have accomplished, you have experienced failure in your life. So many times failure becomes a destructive force in a person's pursuit towards excellence. I became a world champion skier and NFL football player not by denying or becoming trapped by my failures, but rather by embracing them and developing a formula to use those experiences to bring me closer to accomplishing my goals. We've all heard the cliché, "losing makes you stronger" but why, and more importantly, how do the most successful people deal with these educationally rich moments in their lives to make them stronger? My athletic journey has been an accumulation of the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I wrote this book to share the most important lessons that I have learned in hopes of helping others increase their chances of realizing their dreams. Fueled By Failure is not just the title of my book, it has become a way of life that I have fully embraced. -- Jeremy Bloom

Veterans Day, Nov. 11th
On Veterans Day we honor all,
Who answered to a servce call.
Soldiers young, and soldiers old,
Fought for freedom, brave and bold.
Some have lived, while others died,
And all of them deserve our pride.
We're proud of all the soldiers who,
Kept thinking of red, white and blue.
They fought through many days and nights.
And though we ma not know each name,
We thank ALL veterans just the same.

November Humor
Early one November, a turkey hunting party headed towards Meeke in Minnesota. Surprisingly, they could not find any turkeys. "Never mind," said, Jed, their leader "we'll go back to the cabin, have breakfast then try again."
"I'll skip breakfast and keep on looking," said Tommy Lee who had come all the way from Texas especially for the shoot. While the others had their breakfast they heard no end to gunshots. After they finished their bacon and eggs they headed in the general direction of the shooting. They were greeted by Tommy Lee, who said, "Bring a truck, I've got me 5 of them!" "Do we really need a truck for 5 birds," said Jed? "Birds?" said Tommy Lee, "I've got me 5 sheep! I wasn't going to come all this way from Texas and then go home empty handed!"

FAQ: Can Mazon help me finance my new business?
If you take a look at any list of wealthy people, one overwhelming theme emerges: The majority own at least one business. Even those who inherited their riches can probably thank a business owner somewhere in their past. Rarely, if ever, can someone become super-wealthy by rising up through the corporate ranks. Even if you are currently a wage slave, you can start a business on the side with the goal of taking it full time once it earns enough to allow you to do so.
