Semi-Annual Tuition Payments
Semi-Annual Tuition Payments Due FRIDAY: If you chose to pay your child's 2012-2013 tuition on the Semi-Annual payment plan, your second Semi-Annual payment is due by the close of business (5:00 pm) this Friday, November 30th. If you have not yet paid your semi-annual installment, please start making arrangements for this payment now so that the required funds are sure to be available by Friday. The charge for this tuition installment appears on the October 31st billing statement that was sent to you at the beginning of November. This tuition installment must be paid in cash or by check. No late fees will accrue on this tuition charge as long as your payment arrives in the Main Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday. If, however, your payment arrives after this deadline, a late charge of $20 will immediately accrue to your account, the discount you received for agreeing to pay tuition by this due date may be cancelled, and your child's enrollment in the School for the remainder of the 2012-2013 school year, and any financial aid you may have received, may be jeopardized. Please contact Rima in the Business Office at x 308 if you have any questions.

Feb. 20, 2013, 7pm
Crocker Theater, Cabrillo College
Reserve your ticket now for the next in our series of community lectures as we welcome Dr. Yong Zhao to Santa Cruz on February 20, 2013. Dr. Zhao is currently a full professor and the Presidential Chair and Associate Dean for Global Education, College of Education at the University of Oregon. Dr. Zhao's current work focuses on designing 21st century schools in the context of globalization and the digital revolution.
We are very excited to be partnering with Cabrillo College, Mount Madonna School and York School to bring Dr. Zhao to Santa Cruz. Dr. Zhao will be presenting his latest book, World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students, where he proposes that the current measures of education quality through standardized testing are misleading and that the so-called high performing education systems do not actually produce the kind of creative and entrepreneurial talents we need.

Book Fair Results
We had a very successful Book Fair, even better than last year! We sold $5,778.00 of books and received $1,420.00 in profits . All of your purchases will enrich our library program by providing items for the enjoyment and education of our students.
I want to thank all the parents who purchased books for their children and teachers. And there were so many people who helped to put on the Fair. Our Volunteer Coordinator was Bernice Bernstein. She put a lot of time and effort into organizing our volunteers, the Book Fair Contest and helping during the Fair. Petra Bryan contributed to our success by being the Publicity Coordinator. Karin Clift has continued to assist us by providing the necessary preparation prior to the Fair. Other wonderful volunteer helpers were: Sally Fauske, Wendy Sickels, Barry Cowen, Becky Luksich, Kim Batanides, Freny Cooper, Jan Olsen, Suzanne Koebler, Virgina Rodriquez, Katie Dashtban, Dan Moore, Chris Lang, Jamilynn Willaman, Shannon Loiler, Judi Yamamoto, Joanna Manoff, Karen Hovekamp, Bruce Clift, and Shiva Hurvitz.
Big thanks also to our Student Volunteers - Talia Bernstein, Mikalya Dumont, Ben Whitley, Wyatt Bernard, Isabel Folger, Chloe Ortiz, Lucy Zicarelli, Jason Hurvitz, and Alyce Hersey. Dressing as Clifford the Dog with a friend: Wyatt Bernard with Phillip Roval and Jason Hurvitz with Michael Buslik. Rachel Clift helped advertise our fair by wearing sandwich board posters.
Winners of the Book Fair Contest: Cherry Lopez, Zoe Anderson, Rio Wolfman, Dylan Wilmers, Jaiden Wolfman, Isabel Folger, Hanna Fleming, Carly Hurvitz, Lucy Zicarelli, and Chloe Ortiz.
Thank you -Merle

2013-14 Financial Aid
Financial Aid for the 2013-2014 School Year: Financial Aid application season is now open. Please click here to download the complete 2013-2014 financial aid packet which explains how to file an application through the FAST system (Financial Aid for School Tuition). This packet can also be downloaded from the Admissions page of the Gateway School website. When you are ready to file your FAST application, you will find a link to the FAST online application itself on that page of our website. In order to apply for aid, you must file the online application through FAST and you must mail to FAST a copy of your complete 2012 tax returns. We recommend that parents start preparing now to get their 2012 taxes done as early as possible during the month of February 2013. The deadline for completing your FAST application is February 15th and the deadline (postmark date) for mailing your tax return to FAST is February 25th. As long as you meet these deadlines, your application will be considered for the first round of financial aid awards (the round in which the bulk of our financial aid budget is awarded). If you are divorced, separated or never married, please be aware that each parent must file a separate (but linked) FAST application and each parent must submit a copy of his or her complete 2012 tax returns to FAST. Please contact Rima in the Business Office at x 308 if you have any questions.
