Percy's Blog -
Election Fatigue

If the last 18 months taught us anything it is that the election cycle is too long, and that, as a country, we spend an inordinate amount of time discussing elections and our right to vote and precious little time actually voting.   Since 1960, the percentage of the voting-age population that cast ballots in national elections has exceeded 60% only three times (1960, 1964, and 1968).   Conversely, the percentage of eligible voters who have participated in national elections has failed to reach 40% ten times. We remain 18 - 20 percentage points below many industrialized countries in this area, and 27 percentage points below South Africa.

K-2 Wine Social - Thursday 11/15 @ 5:15 pm
As of today, DAY 64, we are at:
100% Board participation
100% faculty/staff participation
72% parent participation.
Please keep the gifts and pledges coming in.

We are deeply grateful to all the parents who have made a commitment to the Campaign, which helps us to bridge the tuition-cost gap (which is $1,500 per student) and complete our budget this school year.

The first grade which reaches 100% giving will have all the parents names put into a drawing for two 49-ers tickets for the Dec 30th game!

Increases in giving will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a Gateway family, up to $25,000! Please help us secure this match!

On-line, tax-deductible giving is available 24/7 at https://www.gatewaysc.org/give/donate.html
Día de los Muertos & Ofrenda

We want to extend our deep appreciation to Jessica Delgado and Tera Martin for coordinating the Dia De los Muertos projects and activities over the past few weeks.  They were instrumental in helping to set up the Ofrenda, creating sugar skulls for the MAH exhibit, coordinating the activity with Gault Elementary, and securing the Whitehawk Dancers for our First Friday.  This year's celebration was truly memorable. Tera and Jessica, of course, could not have pulled it off without the tireless support of the many volunteers who gave their time and energy to the project.  A very special thank you to Virginia Rodriguez, Mary Henderson, Joellen Pelz, Jamie Smith, Priscilla Cinque, Monique Wellise, Leigh Ann Lively, Gabriela Arrendondo, Grace Caitlin, Renee McCormick, Jeannie Wholey, Joanne Kennedy & Rocco Cappalla, Avon & Eric Hansen, Valmarie Levine, Shannon Weeman-McQuain, Perry Samios & Robin Altig, Marina Chicarel & Bruce Peters, Nina Maisterra, Diana August, and Homayun Etemadi.

Thank you all for your creativity, energy, and support.
Internet Safety for Children
Tuesday Nov. 13th, 7:00 p.m. - Lori Getz

Please join us for an informative and thought-provoking evening with Lori Getz, founder of Cyber Education Consultants in Los Angeles, CA. Lori's mission is to help bridge the gap between a young generation of digital natives and their parents and teachers. Her presentation will focus on how to talk with children about cyber security and how to navigate their interactions with the digital world (including gaming) safely and securely.

Lori has a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from San Diego State University and is certified by isafe.org as an Internet Safety Specialist. This is Lori's fifth year speaking to Gateway parents, and each year she brings something new and valuable to her presentation.

Please RSVP to Kimara Vann at kimara.vann@gatewaysc.org.

Childcare is available but we need a minimum of 10 students in order to have care - please sign up by Friday November 9th.
