BROTHER/SISTER SPOTLIGHT
Rachel and Markaylaa are a phenomenal match. They have been matched for one year now and are great friends! Rachel likes that Markaylaa has a lot of energy and is very outgoing, she says that she is not afraid to speak her mind which makes their outings more exciting and enjoyable. Markaylaa likes that Rachel takes her places and that they get to do activities together like baking, especially banana bread! Rachel and Markaylaa love music and often sing together in the car and at Rachel's house. In the winter they do a lot of baking and playing the WII and in the summer they enjoy going to parks and swimming.

When asked what her favorite part about being a mentor was, Rachel said, "I really enjoy bonding with Markaylaa. She makes me laugh and keeps me on my toes. We enjoy many of the same activities like singing, dancing, baking and being outdoors. It's fun teaching each other new things and I enjoy taking her to places or events that she has never done before." Recently Markaylaa convinced Rachel to take her ice skating even though Rachel couldn't skate and was very reluctant. It turns out Markaylaa is a good teacher and was very encouraging. Rachel promised they could go again some time!

Congratulations Rachel and Markaylaa on being January's match of the month!

SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING

Thank you to our current mentors and businesses participating
in the YMCA School Based Mentoring Program. We are still in need of individuals and businesses to adopt their local elementary
school. Mentors spend one hour per week with a youth, typically over their lunch hour, having lunch, playing games or just talking. Please call the Brother/Sister Office at 507-345-9815 if you are interested in becoming a school based mentor.

NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH

January is National Mentoring Month and the YMCA would like to thank all of the mentors in the Brother/Sister program and our School-Based mentoring program for volunteering their time to make a big impact on the youth in our community! We are always in need of more positive adults who would be willing to volunteer as a mentor in our Brother/Sister program and our School-Based mentoring program. Start your new year off right by making the commitment to give back to the community through mentoring! Check out these 10 reasons to be a mentor!

THANK YOU

Thank you Kristi Schuck and Kerri Ambrose for raising $11,444.00 for the YMCA Livestrong Program. Your dedication to the program is deeply appreciated.
