YMCA Mentoring Programs

Adopt your neighborhood school and make a difference in your community!

School Based Mentoring is a program that pairs Mankato area public school students with adult mentors for lunch or other school activities for an hour once a week during the academic school year. We are seeking individuals and business partnerships to adopt their neighborhood school to help positively impact a youth.

If you are interested in being a school based mentor, or having someone speak at your business about becoming a mentor, please call the office at 507-345-9815.

Making a positive difference in the life of a kid who needs it.
That's the role - and reward - of the Brother/Sister volunteer.

The Brother/Sister program creates a unique bridge connecting caring adult mentors to youth. Mentors help youth increase their self-confidence, social and communication skills, positive behaviors and and help improve relationships at home, school and within the community.

The Basics

To ensure mentors and their matches have the best experience possible we recruit, screen and train mentors. We also provide ongoing support of the relationship and coordinate the monthly group activities.

Matches meet once a week for two to three hours. They plan activities together and share their skills, time and interests with each other.

Brother/Sister is open to all families and youth ages 6 to 14 in the Mankato/North Mankato area. There are no income guidelines or fees to participate.

For more information, contact Cheryl Hamond at 345-9809

Camp Patterson Fun!
YMCA Summer Camp was a huge success. We spent the summer at outdoor parks, had wonderful field trips, and met many new friends. It was a blast! Camps varied from kayaking, horseback riding, singing songs and discovering the great state of Minnesota by taking exciting field trips. Our camp staff loved every minute of it! Thank you for sending your child to YMCA camp!

Safe at Home!

Parents, you need to run to the store, but your child wants to stay home alone. IS he or she ready? This one-session safety course for kids covers what to do and what not to do when kids are home by themselves. Led by trained YMCA staff, the program equips kids with the knowledge it takes to be safe and comfortable at home on their own. From the proper way to handle phone calls to how to respond to strangers at the door, safety is the objective.

Parents are welcome, but not required to accompany their child. Program designed for kids ages 8-11. For all information, please contact Jenni Robb at 345-9804.
