Over 200 Participants StartSTRONG
The first race in the Scheels RunSTRONG Race Series was ushered in Saturday with a bright and warm sunrise. Over 200 participants signed up to run the 5K. Many participants dedicated their run or walk in honor or memory of loved ones.

Bright yellow posters lined the walls of the blue gym where registration took place. Hand written names of family and friends affected by cancer scrawled over the paper. Many participants and current or previous LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participants donned 'Survivor' shirts.

The race was full of heartfelt moments and true inspiration with participants of all ages. All proceeds from the Scheels RunSTRONG Race Series benefits the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program.

Skate Park Plans
Roll Ahead

Madison Avenue Fire Station  to serve as temporary location for the Skate Park

The Mankato Family YMCA Board of Directors voted to rebuild the Chesley Skate Park at the location it occupied before the fire that burned it down on February 1st of this year.

Board of Directors President Jennifer Pfeffer stated "We have enjoyed a very good relationship with the city of Mankato and we are very happy to be rebuilding on the property that they have so generously provided to the park in the past."

"The old location just off of Balcerzak is one that many kids can get to easily," said YMCA Executive Director John Kind. "This location has very positive memories for those kids and they will be happy to be returning."

The YMCA will be operating in a skate park in a temporary location at the old Fire Station at the corner of Madison and Broad until the new park is built or the city sells that property - whichever comes first. Authorization to occupy that location was given at the City Council meeting held on March 24th.
