From the white ceiling lights down to the new desk, the new Mankato Family YMCA lobby is a sleek and efficient piece of work.

As promised, lobby operations were in place by the first of the year, sparking plenty of good commentary from the incoming members.

Needless to stay, the desk staff is happy to be back on level ground, having stationed their operations (registering classes, member check-in, etc.) in the hallway.

Let us know how you like it. And in the meantime, thanks for the patience shown so far with the relocation of desk operations.

Speaking of construction, here's a sneak peek at progress in the adult men's locker room. Stay tuned!

Get your business in the Y

Have you noticed the digital message boards in the Y lobby and the Life Center? Not only are these display terminals a more colorful and attractive way to provide members with the latest Y news flashes, it's an affordable way for businesses to support the Y while reaching potential customers.

For $100 a month, your professionally designed message will rotate among messages at the rate of six times per hour for every hour of operation. Crunching the numbers, that adds up to 2,735 showings of your message per week, and a rate of .03 per message.

Daughter Day Jan. 27

It's the annual event just for her

Treat yourself to some quality time with that special girl in your life.

Here at the Y, it's a day of dance fitness, yoga, crafts and snacks all suited just for her. So register today for a sweet time with that daughter, granddaughter, niece, little sis or other unique girl in your life.

This is a members-only event and space is limited, thus reservations are recommended.

Lockers for sale January 11

The bank of lockers on the pool deck will be available for purchase Friday, Jan. 11 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There's a process to ensure fairness: You can select a "section" of lockers, then go to the end of the line before making an additional purchase.

Sales will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

Lockers are $5 per column, and buyers must provide their own labor and transportation.

Lazyman Triathlon begins this month

That's right triathloner, we're giving you some time. Five weeks, in fact.

That's hopefully a fair amount of time to accomplish a full Ironman
triathlon: a 2.5-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

The Lazyman Triathlon runs from Jan. 6 to Feb. 10. Register for the Lazyman Triathlon at the Y's front desk and pick up a log sheet to keep track of your progress and distance.

See you after five weeks at the finish line.
