IDAHO® POTATO WALL CHART SIMPLIFIES SELECTION

Free Poster Identifies Over 25 Varieties and Their Characteristics

The state of Idaho produces over 25 potato varieties, and the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is proud to promote them all. From the popular Russet Burbank to the delectable Cal Red to exotically named Russian Banana Fingerling, Idaho produces a potato to meet every recipe requirement.  For example, the Russet Burbank, with its distinctive, earthy flavor and high solids content makes the ideal baking potato and is a popular variety for French fries, while many chefs chose the waxy, firm textured Cal Red to boil or steam for potato salad.

For culinarians seeking direction for selecting just the right potato for their needs, the IPC has developed an Idaho® Potato Varieties poster to take the guesswork out of purchasing. Under each heading/photo, find a description of the variety's appearance, flavor profile and recommended usage. The full-color poster is ideal for displaying in kitchen prep areas or culinary education classrooms.

Orders limited to 30 posters per instructor.  Email  jvail@potato.idaho.gov to request your posters.

AWARDS/CONTESTS AND OTHER WAYS TO PAY FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT!

The Idaho Potato Commission and its annual Innovation Award recognizes programs and/or individuals who have designed a part of their program to be something different or something bigger than what was required.

The CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award is an exciting boost each year to the many programs who have reached out to farmers or to new markets or to methods that all help us teach in a more sustainable fashion.

The (new) Sysco Educator of the Year Award is designed to recognize that individual who has gone above and beyond in their thinking, their energy, their devotion to foodservice education.

The (new) Unilever Foodsolutions Contest is recognizing that healthful food preparation is here to stay and we should recognize someone who can re-engineer a familiar recipe and then write a Lesson Plant to help other teachers with that same goal.

Go to www.CafeMeetingPlace.com for details of these Awards and Contests.  There are significant benefits and note that they are open to both high school and college-level programs and individuals!
