IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

The hotel block in Chicago for the Deans and Directors Award has been extended to February 6th.  Registration, agenda, and hotel information ($119/night) can be found by going to http://www.cafemeetingplace.com/pdf/events/chicago_hotel15.pdf.

This Retreat is geared towards professional development for leaders of programs.  Call the CAFÉ office with any questions at (410) 268-5542.

EDUCATIONAL BEST PRACTICES

Topics have been chosen for the 11th Annual Leadership Conference's "Educational Best Practices Day."  Here are some working titles!

  • Student Motivation
  • Sous Vide Cooking
  • 50-minute classroom
  • Self-discovery
  • Collaborative Learning
  • Molecular Gastronomy
  • Culinary Arts as an Art
  • Baking Boot Camps

The conference will be June 18-20, 2015, hosted by Niagara Culinary Institute in New York.

If you are flying, Buffalo is the nearest airport.  The hotel and the school are within a block of each other and they are both 2-3 blocks from the Falls.  So there is no need for a rental car.  You can even walk into Canada! (but you must have your passport).

You can register and request to be invoiced by going to  http://cafemeetingplace.com/cafe-events/2015-leadership-conference . Hotel information (and this is high season for Niagara Falls, so don't wait) can be found at http://www.cafemeetingplace.com/pdf/events/hotel_leadership15.pdf

The working agenda is at

AWARDS/CONTESTS AND OTHER WAYS TO PAY FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT!

The Idaho Potato Commission and its annual Innovation Award recognizes programs and/or individuals who have designed a part of their program to be something different or something bigger than what was required.

The CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award is an exciting boost each year to the many programs who have reached out to farmers or to new markets or to methods that all help us teach in a more sustainable fashion.

The (new) Sysco Educator of the Year Award is designed to recognize that individual who has gone above and beyond in their thinking, their energy, their devotion to foodservice education.

The (new) Unilever Foodsolutions Contest is recognizing that healthful food preparation is here to stay and we should recognize someone who can re-engineer a familiar recipe and then write a Lesson Plant to help other teachers with that same goal.

Go to www.CafeMeetingPlace.com for details of these Awards and Contests.  There are significant benefits and note that they are open to both high school and college-level programs and individuals!
