KEYNOTE FOR THE EDUCATIONAL BEST PRACTICES DAY, JUNE 21
Dr. Fred Mayo will keynote the June 20th Educational Best Practices Day with the theme: "Ten Insights about Students, Social Media, and Student Retention."
This general session which is titled in honor of the tenth anniversary of CAFÉ, will focus on three major issues facing culinary education: How are students changing and what that means for us as educators; what we need to know and do with social media; and how we can retain students in our programs. Based on comments during the Deans and Directors Retreat in Chicago this February and research on these topics, the presentation will provide suggestions for changing our perspectives and our practices.
Dr. Mayo currently operates his own training, coaching, and consulting firm, working with clients in higher education, hospitality, food service, hospitality and culinary education, small business operations, and not-for-profit organizations.
For the last eight years, in addition to consulting, he has served full time as Clinical Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management at New York University. While at NYU, he led the faculty revision of the five undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
For twelve years, he was academic dean at The Culinary Institute of America where he held the titles of Director of Education, Associate VP for Degree Programs, Dean of Liberal and Management Studies, and Dean of Academic Initiatives.
The CAFÉ Leadership Conference will be held in Salt Lake City, June 19-21. For online registration, agenda, and hotel information, please go to http://cafemeetingplace.com/cafe-events/2014-leadership-conference.
