NEW TO YOU
There is new nomenclature for names of pork cuts which have been USDA approved. Sign up for “The 400” which is the National Pork Board’s newsletter to keep up to date for your classrooms!
For example, some of the new names include T-Bone Chops, Porterhouse Chops, Sirloin Chops and more.

TED Talks
I urge you to take some time to listen to the TED Talks About Education hosted by John Legend.
This program (I saw it for free on my PBS app on my IPad) features presentations by several classroom educators and students and leaders (for example: Bill Gates!). Some highlights from the very short presentations:
- Spark their imagination! There is a difference between knowledge and understanding.
- Recognize “grit” in your students, passion and perseverance for long term goals. “Living life as a marathon runner is more effective than a sprint” And, BTW, talent does NOT necessarily make you gritty!
- Bill Gates feels as if everyone needs a coach. We improve with feedback. Who doesn’t get enough feedback/coaching? Teachers! He has set up a MET (Measures of Effective Teaching) and says it will cost $5 Billion, but that’s only 2 percent of all the teachers’ salaries! “Give them tools” he says!
- Another speaker from the Harlem’s Children’s zone said that we are still (mostly) teaching the way we did when there were rotary phones! He feels that we are walking over an educational cliff.
There’s more! I urge you to listen to some or all of this excellent program. I guarantee it will make you think!
